Those 4 door cars looked good, they had an aggressive look.

holy god, what holds the trabi together? a prayer?
they are not quite fiberglass. no safety glass either, not even the windshield. little weedwacker motor... barely do 60mph and that due to the fact it only weighs 1200lbs... i would imagine almost like putting a cox engine on a paper airplane.

I couldn't help but stumble across this on another site when I remembered this thread. I would personally change quite a few things, but it definately has some potential.

Nah... That is just fake Retro Style...

Like the PT Cruiser/ Tbird / Bug / Mini / etc....

Really has nothing to do with an actual Old Car.

  6. Did anybody watch the Top Gear about Soviet cars? They are all absolute garbage. Clarkson hit one with a hammer and it just bounced off, didn't even ding it. The older stuff looks cool, but most of that stuff is just crappy cars made even worse by Soviets.

Last I heard a Trabant is illegal to import being classified as a "Gross Polluter".
StreetRodder hid an article or 2 on East Block hot rodding. Seems the Mercedes V8 is as popular with them as the SBC is here.

  8. I was soooooo close to buying one of these in the Netherlands, in 1991. It was a Hungarian Embassy vehicle for many years, and was then owned by a Dutch guy. I saw the car at a car show/swap meet and drooled all over it! He had all of the history and documentation. It was the epitome of Cold War auto lust! We could not agree on a price, so someone else probably ended up with it, I'm sure. The car in the pic is an example, not the same car I was looking at...!

  9. Oh, yeah, the little Trabant, or "Trabbi"...the East German Autobahn burner! Oil burner, that is! I like the look of the Kombi pictured!

  10. A Trabant is legal to import - it has to be 25 years old to be exempt from the EPA/DOT regs, though. I know of two in OK and at least four in Texas, and all are tagged/titled.

How the hell did this thread stay open? I'm thinkin there was some "collusion" a foot to keep the mods occupied.

  25. I agree. A lot of the cars appear to be r_t rods to me and others are big billet wheel cars.
