Motels: If any of you haven't gotten a place to stay, you might Google "Brooks Ky" and look at the couple og motels right at the I-65 exit. Don't know if they have any available but they are clean and its a straight shot about ten miles up I-65 to the Fairgrounds. Or just type in Brooks Ky Hotels
Got here yesterday. Staying at the Koa in Shepherdsville. Brought my ‘32 5 window, my sister drove my ‘49 Chevy truck, dad drove his ‘34 Chevy sedan(1991 giveaway car) and my buddy drove his ‘40 Chevy delivery. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I will be making the 800 mile trip with a buddy of mine. This will be my first time. Not bringing a car, but picking up my '32 rails from American Stamping and bringing them to Texas. Maybe I can bring the '29 AV8 next year!!
... Making the drive down Thursday from Mich ... My last time there was for the 25th ... Looking forward to the 50th ...
13 hours, 2 heavy rain storms, one hotel reservation screw up .....But ....... I made it. Weather looks great until I head back.
Well crap!! Couldn't get things done, so NOT going as planned. Just canceled room for Th-Fr-Sa at Quality Inn, Brooks, in case anybody needs one.
Just got back from Louisville, stood in line at registration for close to an hour, left for lunch, then tried to go back but traffic was backed up way the hell down Crittenden Dr. I, and many others, have never seen such a mess at the Nats. Had not been to the Nats for a few years, except as a spectator, pre-registered online, but I never was sent a registration number, and neither were many others that I talked to, so had to get in the long line, which was moving at a glacical pace. I asked if they could look me up by my name, the reply was that the computer was at, you guessed it, at the end of the long line. Anyone have any comments re today's experience?
I was in and out in about 15 minutes. I preregistered by US snail mail. Sorry you had trouble.... I wondered what that long line was.
Preregistered and recieved registration number by mail. At 0930 this morning waited about 10 minutes on a line to pick up the documents. Why make it difficult for yourself?
I'll be there in the TRJ booth. Come on by, say hi and let's talk about hot rods. Oh, and we have the new issue hot off the press!
Gary, so you got your regis number in the mail? All I got was my membership card and an application for the 2020 Nats. I checked the two emails that I got from NSRA, one for membership, other for registration, no registration number in either. From talking to a number of people in line, they had no number either, but most in line were not pre-registered, looked like. I got there a little after noon and the line was all the way across the room and still was when I left. Prior years were great, not this year.
I pre-registered online and never got anything in the mail as well. I ended up calling two weeks ago and they sent me a sheet with my number on it, just like if I had mailed it in. That sucks that you and others had to wait I. That long ass line. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
As this is the 50th Anniversary its just as you would expect. It will be interesting to see how many are registered.
Got a call from a couple of Kansas participants last night. They found me in the NSRA Fellow Pages. They were out of gas in a 56' Chevrolet wagon about 15 miles west of Rolla on I-44. I got them going and made a couple of new friends. We leave at 0700. Looking forward to a day on the road with old friends and old cars. I registered by mail and got my entry number, etc. We'll see how registration goes for us.
I'll be heading out Friday in the late model. Any shop parties, open houses, or garage tours this weekend?
Expect an all time event record car count. Today (Friday) registration numbers have already exceeded the 15K mark. I remember back in the nineties several times car counts were over 15K. I got there about 8 AM today and folks rolling in around noon reported long lines of traffic and lots of event cars pulled over due to ovaerheating. Not so sure there will be enough be enough parking before the Nats are over. In the ninties there were no commercial tents that now are everywhere and the air conditioned vendor buildings were much smaller then the ones they have now.
I live about 80 miles away . Got there early No Sweat. Two hours to get in gate off ex-way exit ramp. Parking lot is a mess with so many people, Okay I'm out 27 dollars already plus gas to get this far I was a long way from people gate. Got my two wheel cart and hat and ready to go, checked my phone it's 11:30 shit! {Hurry up old man} I said to myself, every thing will be gone from swap meet. Nothing on my list to be found. oh well . Looked at cars for a while there is something for every body see pics
We had a great day. I have never seen the field filled up on a Friday. Our registration went well at ten minutes to six on Thursday. We did get backed up at the gate for about twenty minutes. We were early, others waited well over and hour. I wonder what tomorrow will be like.
How is the spectator parking there haven't been in several years and not bringing a hot rod since Im not pre registered, is spectator parking a Pain and does it also take forever to get into?
I've never seen this many cars at a Louisville NSRA Nats. Heard from some non Kentuckian that roads leading to the Fairgrounds were bumper to bumper. A guy with a Nailhead powered 51 Mercury said he was stuck in traffic for 2 hours, his temp gauge was at 240 and his radiator was steaming. I'd like to hear the official final car count. Gary
I think the official count was around 12,7XX. I don’t know if the fairgrounds could handle any additional antique vehicles as it was full!
Since it was the 50th Anniversary the only Thing they missed on was getting the Original California Kid Coupe out there. It would have been perfect and appropriate since it was one of the cars to revitalize the hot rod. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The California Kid was there. I didn’t get a picture of it, but you can see it in the background in this pic of Jake’s Coupe. I did not see the Magnum Coupe, however.
I think rather than the Magnum coupe you meant the Super Bell coupe, which company and car are owned by Pete & Jake's. Phil
Really nice display of the Pete and Jake’s coupes at the 50th Nats. Final announced count was 12,7XX.
