July 28th was the running of Casino drags. This is a regional event run by volunteers at the local airstrip. For me it was another 6 hour drive (the second one I've done this week), this time solo as the crew chief is still getting over the 'flu. Once again I arrived early enough on the Saturday to help setup for the Sunday's racing. Because I was sleeping onsite I volunteered as security but did a shit job of it. Some dickheads that had been causing trouble in the club and been kicked out had threatened to sabotage the day's racing. About 4 am I was woken by a noise and the sound of vehicle speeding off. The other bloke that was there searched where the generator and other gear were but we didn't find any problems. What they found when racing was due to start was that someone had cut about 10 feet of the timing cable. Luckily they had spare cable and there was only a short delay. Racing got underway and this is heads-up racing with fastest in each bracket the winner. Brackets are decided by number of cylinders. I was in the six cylinder bracket again and to cut a long story short, I won it again. 9.16, 9.06, 9.02, 9.09, 9.25 (dodgy start). I also did a couple of grudge runs after racing finished, both of which I won including one against a Ford Mustang. Including the shakedown run that was eight runs, didn't open the toolbox and drove it onto the trailer at the end. That's what I call a good day's racing. I've got 2 videos from the day but my computer has been upgraded and I don't know how to get them off YouTube now as the setup is different. I'll put them up tomorrow after I speak to the 'puter guru. After the six hour drive home I get to do the trip next weekend for the Willowbank Nostalgias, except this time it's a 10 hour drive. Hooroo.
I saw some snaps on facebook. it looked like a great turnout. Its a shame the dickheads tried to ruin it for everyone else. Hopefully catch up for a chat next weekend. Safe travels
