For those of you who have done this conversion. Do you think it was worth it?

After driving mine in heavy traffic today I am thinking about doing it

Yes I did and I think it is worth doing. I have to have an automatic because I can't clutch any longer. I used the Speeadway Kit. $400.

There are others and are more expensive so it depends on which kit that you want to use.

I had the speedway kit, Worked ok flatomatic looks much better. I would choose an automatic with overdrive I think someone said a FMX would work. My C4 always felt like it needed another gear.

I've done them with both the Flatomatic and Speedway kit. Both worked good. I like the appearance of the Flato kit although on an 8 BA it needs the intermediate bell housing but is a direct bolt up to the 59 block. I've also done a few customer chassis with the Speedway 8BA/AOD conversion and my customers report good performance. I have a friend with one of my chassis under his deuce 2 door with a fuel injected FH and C4 and it really performs great.

Just to clarify this comment, the FMX is not a overdrive

Ha, ha... Argued this point with a 'know-it-all' in this valley when I got here.
I had done a Fordamatic conversion, in '78.
The tallest range you get with FMX is 1:1.
There are 'experts' around, so watch out... BTW, this 'expert' has moved to the Phoenix area of Arizona.
    (watch out, Squirrel)

  12. The AOD is based off the FMX design... I believe there's even a few shared parts.

AOD ... use a Lokar TPS cable kit
and make sure you adjust it correctly
