B235F573-C3EC-4AB3-AC8F-F2EBD5C17F18.jpeg I have a 392 2x4 intake (1733477 casting number) but the date casting number has me confused. It looks like 9/18/61. The 392 was made in 57 and 58 so how could this date be right? Any thoughts or information would be appreciated

Probably made for chrysler sponsored drag racers at the strip like an early direct connection.

Nobody knows for sure? Somebody on this site knows. Too many hemi gurus out there for this to be unknown.

Most likey from a factory backed team.

  10. I'm not buying the factory racing part theory. By 1961 any factory backing (if Chrysler even backed any race cars then)would have gone to then current production cars and engines. I would think a mistake on the casting date is a far more likely reason.
The one thing I do find curious is the throttle bores all look to be ground over size, so I would say this was on a hot rod at some time in it's life.

Could have been a factory replacement part...The factory use to make replacement parts for ten years after the original car was made...

Yep, probably a service part. Too bad about the crude hole hogging.

Yeah, it looks like a butcher job... :( But it can be welded back up and re-machined.... :)

I agree that it’s definitely a amateur hole hog job and I also agree it was probably on a hot rod at some point. I’m throwing it on flea bay if anyone is interested.
    Thanks everyone! You guys rock!

Looks like your intake is three days newer than mine. :D Chrysler must have done a run of service replacement (?) 300C and D intake manifolds in Sept '61. Kind of weird.

Maybe there was a call for a bunch of them for marine applications?
They usually aren't a wear part.
