Were these newer Thomas heads a reproduction of one made in the past? If so what time period?

This one I bought a few months back is cast iron 7:1 compression

 

Thanks for the compliment. I’m going for that pre war look, made back in the day. Recently, I had a couple of old timers at Donut Derelict’s ask me if it was a barn find.
Anyway, I’m running 7.50-16 and 6.00-16 Goodyear’s with the zigzag tread. I hadn’t checked them in a while and they were less than 15 all around. The Model A gauge showing 35 is most likely for stock full fendered cars with 19s and 21s. Since my car has no fenders, running boards and bumpers, it must weigh a few hundred less than a stock car. The 7.50s are pretty tall and are designated as a truck tire with 8 ply construction, but they do add to the cool rubber rake look. I set them at 25 psi. I could immediately tell a big difference from 15 psi. It seemed to roll easier and the steering was lighter. I’m gonna bump them up to 30 psi and see how it that is. Them maybe try 35 psi. Thanks for the recommendations.

I'm not sure if anyone on here has tried them but I'm running those 6 volt LED headlight bulbs that Bratton offers and I lovem. I thought I would share how they look at night. Also at idle the generator is no longer showing a draw.

Bias ply polyester or cotton belted tires should be run at recommended pressure,usually 32 psi.There is no gain in traction or ride running them softer,Apart from a traditional look they are terrible tires next to modern radials.Got a friend,he ha a 25k cabriolet,restored beauty,,and he runs those 99 dollar vietnamese rag tires.he was complaining about tracking,ride and stopping power.. when I pointed out he should buy quality tires he got mad at me..Its called CAMO,cheap ass model a owner.

Light emitting diodes are the rage with the purists,another 'accepted touring upgrade' that is not considered to spoil the purity of the car,along with snyder heads and mitchell overdrives..oh,and turn signals,big rectangular turn signals

What tires are made in Vietnam?
Gotta agree with your call on Snyder heads, huge turn signals and Mitchells etc, I cannot see the point in that much additional weight in the torque tube. It's unsprung weight, in saying that maybe restorers don't care about handling, always under 50mph, and from what have seen the majority of restored Model As in the USA rarely do 2000 miles a year! As for the Snyder head, if it's going to be modified make it obvious with a named and dressed up head! Model A 6v LEDs that work are new to me, never seen good ones in New Zealand. It does look like an improvement in the picture, and anything that prevents a nighttime flat battery has to be a good thing on a 6v banger. better than battling with an 8 volt battery.
The local Vintage Car Club secretary here , has twin carbs , aftermarket (hidden ) head, a five speed toyota gearbox and open drive in and on his Victoria. Along with '35 wheels and radials, yet they all get upset when I call it a hot rod.

 

That's my point more than anything else,the purist who get all up in arms over a banger..hypocrites you ask me,even if i don't respect the art I always respect the artist.

Gotta dig up the source,but I saw where the blackwall stock a tires for 99 bucks are made in Vietnam.

 

Had a little issue going up to the car show yesterday- 30 miles in to the 65-mile trip, cruising along on a wonderfully cool early morning, Sudden strong smell of GAS! , pulled over to discover float pin had backed out and disappeared from rear carb. Well Shit. This was the same carb that had the extra needle floating around in the float bowl earlier this spring when I put this intake together. . I had used loctite on the pins when I went through both carbs then. Front one was still tight. Dug into toolbox for something to block fuel line only to remember peanut can with assorted nuts (and bolts,screws,etc.) was sitting on my bench right where I left it. Well Shit. Looked up and down the road, no luck. There really aren't too many extra parts on this car except...timing pin! Threaded right in, tightened clamp, no leaks. Tied over out of the way, good to go. Made a plug out of duct tape tight enough to thread in timing cover and onward through the fog...

 

Great show at Red Lodge, Only took a few shots as my batt was low. '41 Packard was a real beauty!

 

Roadside ingenuity is the mark of a true mechanic..was a time when stuff was all over the highways,we used to joke you could build a small block chevy from the parts you find running down 99 from redding to bakersfield...then that indian cried on TV and folks stopped pitching shit out the window

 

Finally got it up and going. Lots of time to get here but it runs and drives really good.

I am slowly saving up to upgrade my stock motor with an updraft manifold, headers, high compression head, and FS distributor. Hoping to hop up the HP some. Since I am pretty new to Model A’s does this sound like good plan? Some of my friends say I should replace the Banger with a Flathead V8 but I would rather hop up what I got.

 

So what is the low Down on that sweet Roadster?

 

Flat head V8's run hot and almost all of them are cracked,but they are sexy no doubt,if you want to go fast bring money. Hop up the banger,only differences I would do with your plan is downdraft manifold with a stromberg 97 and a C grind cam..

Been working on this for quite some time. Made by just finding parts here and there and making what I could. Engine is an A diamond block, counter balanced crank with inserted mains and rods. 1.5" intake valves, a Bill Stipe IB340 cam and Snyder 6:1 cast iron head. Chevy 283 pistons, Stipe oil pump and then I made a downdraft intake and put a new english Stromberg 97 on it running the the stock jetting. 40 Ford brakes and just the stock gearbox and rear end. Its an old Brookville body that took a lot of work to get straight and fitting. I'll get a seat upholstered this fall otherwise just sitting on blankets. Never sat in a model A prior to building this but always loved the old dry lakes roadsters.
It is a lot of fun to drive around on a nice summer evening.

the question can only be answered by you, after all, you are going to drive it.
yes, flat head v8's are cool, the owners get pretty steamed when out run by a 4 cyl banger.
the only thing missing is a cam, this will make the other parts installed work better.

one suggestion, stay with a single downdraft carb, a holley 94 or stromberg 81.
having a good running motor is better more important than multi anythings.

My advice is to start at the bottom first..Take the engine apart to see what you've got. Check the block for cracks. Magnaflux all the workings for same. And look for undue wear. Then you can start with as many "Mods" as you want! "been-there-done that!"
