My buddy has a early VW bus and collects vintage camping gear , it’s a cool set up if you’re into that , anyhow , every single time he goes to the park and hang or the coffee meet people just climb on in , bring the whole family . It blows my mind how people think it’s a display for entertainment. They honestly don’t get it , it’s not your car ! Get out !
I really do think people see this as some sort of art expression, not the way we do. Like it’s all brand new to them .

  4. Pretty relaxed about my cars- do not lock- but then I live in a rural area of MI and never have had any problems of the types described- when I'm traveling and at a Motel we will lock them up as they our out of our sight- the truck usually has our German Shepard Ceasar hanging out in the back- he looks meaner than he is- 100_2913.JPG

And for times when you don't bring the dog, a few well placed turds make a good deterrent.

At most shows I attend with my Studebaker chapter, and we watch each others cars. We encourage the kids to sit behind the wheel, and let pretty ladies sit there for pix. But I do lock up the car if I run to grab a bite or take a leak. We tell the kids on skateboards and bicycles to steer clear.

I've never had a problem with the 48 because of the suicide doors and no door handles. Had some asswipe tell me that he though both were illegal when I walked up on him trying to figure out how to open the doors though.
Got into it with some old fart spectator a few years ago because he was going around and opening and slamming doors on cars just to hear them close. He didn't bother mine but was going around to the more stock looking rigs and at that time the reto rod was in.
My daughter pulled some kid off the running boards of a friend's car when she was about 11 and the kid was dripping watermelon juice on the car. Kd was her age but she made a believer out of him. I ended up having to deal with the parent who I explained to in no uncertain terms that it was look and no touching.
Most of the problems I have seen were old farts who didn't get it or kids who hadn't been taught that you look and don't touch. That and real stupid parents.
Never had a interior nice enough to worry about since I wore the seat Bob Russel in Waco did for me years ago. I was always more upset about the clutter than anything else as I was always fussing at my wife for leaving stuff on the seat or floor and then all the sudden here were a half dozen fiyers on the seat.I'd much rather see event flyers in the goodie bag if there was one. That way everything is all together and when you or your significant other sort it out they get checked over to plan future trips.

  9. I always stay with mine till they cool as well. Don't know about Georgia, but here in the Socialist State of California, I can assure you the courts would find you liable if some idiot burned theirselves on your (not state approved Prius) Hot Rod! Also, I do really worry about a young kid who doesn't know any better rushing up and burning themselves on the giant Hot Wheel!

  10. I know going-in there may be some brain donor wanting to put his/her hands on "that old car". I drive. So far I've had no problems, knock on epoxy primer.
About 15 years ago I was at a cruise night when some drunk guy was leaning against this primo red 65 GTO. A young body builder-type walked up and asked the leaner guy if the GTO was his car. He says "No." The body builder says
"I know it isn't because it's my car and the metal rivets on the back of your jeans are about to meet the concrete in this parking lot if you don't GET THE FUCK OFFA MY CAR!!!:" Well, this guy says "there's no reason to get all huffy, it's just a car."
Mister body builder musta had a double helping of patience because he didn't even touch the drunk leaner...just walked up in front of him with a very determined look on his face and the drunk guy slinked away without a word...

Respect. Some people don't get it or have it.

  12. He's got a Hot rodder's smile right there! (You may have to shorten that shifter for the lil' feller when he starts driving it soon!)
You can tell a proper "Car guy's" kids at shows- they look with their eyes, keep their hands behind their backs, and ask politely if they can look inside, and usually with the parent close by. Stupid people breed stupid kids.

  14. The shows that don't charge admission are the worst. Especially if there is an ice cream truck on the premises. People actually drive around with their families on a hot summer day or evening... looking for something to do, I swear. The wife says, pull in here... I see cars and an ice cream truck.

I have come to the conclusion that people are stupider than I have previously given them credit for. No respect for the property of others, kids out of control. I had words with some idiot at a cruise night a few years ago and his wife said they were going to call the cops. I told her that if she did that, I would know where they live. They just turned around and left.

  15. Sounds like you’re just giving him crap.

I like to let kids sit in my cars. One time I had my rock crawler at a show and
a kid that was maybe 7 years old was sitting in it. He asked, can he start it? I said
'you don't know how, kid" He said sure, flip on the IGN toggle and the PUMPS
toggle and push the big black button.....OOPS, now I use the master disconnect
    at a show!!

Never locked, and windows down. Tool box is locked but thats it. Left unlocked I'm sure someone would help themselves to a beer.
Your vehicle is on display, rope it off! You don't want anyone touching it or hang the prima donnas "dont touch" sign, better yet stand over it with your feather duster chasing off likely suspects.

  20. I keep them closed. Was at a car show 10-15 years ago with a good friend's beautifully restored 55 Buick and after a walk around the show we came back and found and old guy sitting behind the steeringwheel talking to other people like it was his car. Asked him to get the hell out of the car. Guy was really surprised why we were angry at him.
My Morris Minor has no door handles so hard to get in. Still surprised how many parents allow there children to stand on my 32's running boards and just see it as an old car.:(

This thread reminds me why I do not do many events. Over the years I had my share of damage as well as run-ins with sidewalk show judges. After the last time I went to a local cruise event I found that someone had put a nice bend in my radio antenna.

So, do I lock my door? Yes - the garage door. Really don’t need the aggravation.

I usually don't lock, depends on where I am and what's inside.
When I had my M35 military truck it was amazing how many people would climb on it.

  24. My first year at Columbus 1990 Nats ,we came back to the car and it was filled up to the windows with show fliers all crumpled up. Took me and wife 30 minutes to clear them out ,turned around and there were my club members laughing . They would do that to new members .

  25. Now that's funny!

  26. I was at a bigger cruise night a couple of years ago. It is in a parking lot at a train station. One guy parks his shiny Chevelle next to a guy with an equally nice car. He gets out and hits the other car with his door... I looked later in the evening, he dinged it good.

I'm aware of what wet fliers can do to upholstery which definitely is a PITA. Unfortunately rolling up the windows and locking the doors can create another problems, like someone leaning on your paint while stuffing fliers under wiper blades. Lifting a wiper arm too high off the windshield can cause the arm to windshield tension spring to become disconnected from its retaining pin. The good news is it can re repaired. Trust me that little 2" spring is a bear to reconnect. It takes two men and a boy to reconnect and not someting I look forward to ever doing again. Im sure some folks bought new arms rather then reconnecting the tension spring.

  30. Well, I have certainly had better luck with the human race than a lot of you guys.

But, I do have a question for some of you. If you don't attend car shows, why would you post that you don't? If you don't dig car shows, what value is a comment from you? Makes more sense to just scroll on by. Same dorks respond to threads about maintaining shiny paint to say that their wad doesn't need to be waxed. Just getting that post count up? But, I digress... I don't lock mine at shows.
