While digging through my vintage print archives I ran across a couple "Michigan Motor News" annual hardbound volumes. The ads, the cartoons, and in fact the content from 1933 through 1935 are their own unique pleasure with topics like state tax, safety, new car models and features and more. Too much to list really but the cover art is simply wonderful. It moves me, it's playful, and each one is on topic for the month. I can't share them all right now but here's some examples to start. The artist is John S Coppin (1904-1986) and his works go beyond transportation, but it's that part of his art I think our members will dig the most, as well as the seasonal reminders. I'll revisit this and post more as time allows, but if anyone else has examples of his work please share em in this topic. I'll start with my favorite, which is almost even sexy, and a few others follow, but I will indeed get more in here. Enjoy...
Many, many great artists back then. If you are familiar with the name Floyd Clymer, one of the things he did was collect early auto related ads and put them in book form. The art and graphics are fantastic (at least to me).
I like the one where the gal is checking her bank balance and the new model car flyer. Good stuff thru the eye of the illustrator. Thanks for sharing
Love that old graphic design style. However, with the August '34 image with a young boy and his dog going to the lake I couldn't help but imagine all those young boys in many parts of the world five or seven years later going off to unknown futures...
