South Dakota and North Dakota have a friendly rivalry being from South Dakota I'm pretty sure North Dakota motto is--- North Dakota where men are men and sheep are scared----:);)

  2. .........That's true. Many Native Americans refuse to accept a $20 bill in change and demand two $10 bills instead or four $5 bills. download.jpg

Being from New Hampshire we have "LIVE FREE OR DIE" across the plate. For 15 or 20 dollars you can have a special plate made up. A high school buddy last name was Stone. So he had that for a license plate and ran if for one year before they took it away.

Back when I was in the Navy, we had Iodine pills to take in case of NBC attack. ( Nuclear Biological Chemical). The theory was that we would saturate our thyroid with "healthy" Iodine and it would not absorb radioactive Iodine. ( Forgive me, its been 30 years and I dont remember what the isotopes were) . Thankfully all this was just a drill , we never had to do it "live and for real".
The State tag that always made me laugh was Georgia, " The Peach State". I worked in peaches when I was a teenager and in 1980, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, alone, produced more peaches than the whole state of Georgia.
I thought that SC had Palmetto State tags once, but I could be wrong, now you're going to make me go looking through my junk, er "Empire", for one.

  5. Start digging, I thought there was but I can't find anything to prove my thoughts. HRP

It is true about Andrew Jackson , I am Cherokee , my family was forced into a stockade in 1838 , kept there until the fall of that year , then forced to walk from Northwest Georgia to Indian Territory , trip took several months and many lives . even though the people had won their case with the Supreme Court , Jackson forced the removal anyway. Trip is known as " The Trail of Tears "

Nevada has two motto's on diff. types of plates 1 = The Silver State 2= Battle Born

A few years... decades?... ago, Michigan was stamping
    "Water Winter Wonderland"
    On our license plates.
    I'll buy the water part.
But when you're pumping your gas on a dark, windy, 10 degree night, it sure doesn't feel like a Wonderland LOL.

  14. New Hampshire has "Life Free Or Die" on our plates as previously stated. On the Antique plates there is an image of "The Old Man Of The Mountain" which was a rock formation in Franconia Notch that fell back in May of 2003. NH Plates.jpg

  17. I don't know about your neck of the woods but the Cherokee Indians in Cherokee, North Carolina gladly accept any denomination, especially at the casino, they jokingly call the casino, "The white mans trail of tears" :D

Me being a Son of The South I dislike a 50 Dollar bills, Grant is not as popular here than up North! HRP

1957 was the first year they had to standardize Tennessee plates or maybe plates from all the states.
Still has the outline but not quite the same.

  19. .........................Excellent observations, Danny! It's like the ultimate revenge, getting the white man to fork over his money in the casino. Love it. I'm also a proud Son of the Southland and $50 bills just seem to slide through my hands and not stick around long .:D;)

  20. Province of Manitoba:

Friendly Manitoba - currently on license plates.

Land of 100,000 Lakes - on plates from recent past. There may be more than that.

The Keystone Province - slogan from years ago, although still used from time to time.

The Postage Stamp Province - from early times in provincial history, it reflected the then size and shape of province. Not anymore, we now have more square miles than Texas. Some of those square miles a lot less habitable than most of Texas though. :)

"Canada's Heart Beats" - a new promotional slogan that doesn't seem to be getting any traction. 100_0906.JPG

  21. Probably between 25 and 30 years ago, there was a girl in a car with a plate that said KY GIRL running around Edmond, OK. Was amazed that it got made

  22. Not too hard to figure out why that license plate got a pass, after all Kentucky's abbreviation is KY, she was probably from Kentucky. HRP

Wisconsin plate, "America's Dairyland", could or should be, "Packerland" (Green Bay Packers Football) or "Beer & Brats" (not enough room for Beer farts included) or "Cheeseheads". These 3 things are what Wisconsinites are the most famous for and one last options, "Land of Drunks". I believe we have the highest consumption per capita for Brandy and Beer, also near or at the top on drunk driver convictions in the country, per capita/population. All this being said, Wisconsin is a beautiful state, I lived here all my life, just winter in Az. now, moved enough snow, dealt with the cold, gave up snowmobiling, Winter fun gone for wife and I.

I think "The Beaver" state has a nice ring to it.

    Gary

  26. MD is known as the Fee state...err… I mean Free state. don[t think it was on any license plates though. they saved the space for the state gov web address or the war of 1812.

When I lived in NY we did have The Vampire State... Correction... The Empire State on the plates for years
    Chappy

  27. "The Lone Star State"
It's a really great star. If you're outside of Texas somewhere, you can't see it from where you're at.

Before the Lone Star Flag was adopted there was an earlier version with the star, a cannon and the motto "Come And Take It". Though this was never displayed on a license plate, we still have Californians and assorted Yankees showing up in their U-hauls anyway.

I spent about 9 months at Great Lakes Naval Base and Wisconsin is indeed beautiful in the summer... the Winter , not so much. Every payday I would drive up to Sears in Racine and buy tools. The timing light and dwell meter I'm still using came from there. We would usually stop at a place called the Brat Stop on the way back for a brat and a cold beer. As far as I can remember I had never heard of brats till then. Bar on every corner, that was different too.
Used to go to the dirt track in Hales Corner too. When I had left the South, the NDRA was in full WFO mode and the cars in Wisconsin were about 10 years behind . There was a guy still winning the middle division in a 57 Chevy, and he was my favorite, since I hadnt seen one of those on dirt in years. It was like going back in time.Good Times.

Slightly prior top the great state of Texas using thst motto, "molon labe" (come and take it) was the Spartan's way of saying "up yours" when asked nicely to surrender at the Battle of Thermopylae around 480 BC. Probably just a coincidence
