Hello everyone I have a 350 Chevy engine that came off a 95 or 96 truck, I'd like to take off all that electric stuff nd put nd aftermarket intake and carburetor. I heard that these motors at this year have vortec heads would this get too expensive for me to eliminate everything that's electronic ? I am putting this motor in my old hotrod I would like to make this motor simple not computer controlled
You will need a vortec bolt pattern intake, a point or hei distributer electric fuel pump and do not do away with the water pump bypass hose to the intake.
Wasn't 95 the last year for the TBI and 96 the first year for the vortec? If so you need to know what you have.
they also have a reversed rotation water pump on the newer motors. if i remember right the throttle body heads have a couple bolts that are different from the pre 87 heads and the vortecs are missing bolts.
95 was the first year of the new intake/head design. 94 was the last year of TBI. It might be too expensive, if you only have a few hundred bucks to work with. You didn't tell us your budget.
I believe Summit pics of intake manifold that has both bolt patterns Sent from my SM-J737T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

Not quite, Jim, my 1995 Suburban was still sporting TBI and swirl port heads. I have read somewhere that some Vortecs were imstalled in 1995, but I think it would have been in '96 model vehicles.
While technically yes, they do, fit all the Current SBC bolt patterns including Vortec(nice industry first there!)....this intake is a tall single plane much like a Edelbrock Super Victor or Holley Strip Dominator. Big plenum, big port openings and runners, likely a 4000-8500 RPM powerband on a 350" as RHS says in the ad its a good fit for 434" small blocks. Not going to help the OP and his stock 350" Vortec engine much.
Ok, I'll accept that, I wasn't working on late model cars much by the time they were introduced. yeah, they do. Interesting. Probably not very pertinent to this particular situation, though.
Somebody else has the stock type intake I'll keep looking Sent from my SM-J737T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You can use the earlier carb intake on them , just need to modify the two center holes on each side of the manifold. A die grinder is your friend for this. Pretty easy budget modification. Those heads suck for performance though. Should get vortec heads with matching carb manifold or aftermarket earlier heads that fit every other SBC manifold. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
that's true for the 87-94ish TBI intakes, but the 95is-99 "vortec" engines use quite a different bolt pattern...as you can see in that picture I posted above in post #7. There are only 8 bolts, and they go straight down, not at an angle. The 4 bolts in the center don't exist, there's no need to mess with any holes in that area, as there are no bolt holes in the head near the center.
Correct! But I think he has the pre vortec heads , unless I’m reading it wrong. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
