Hot Rods 56 Chevy 3100 - Ma New "Shop Truck" / Daily Driver

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 340HilbornDuster, Jun 5, 2019.

  1. Right now it's stock height but soon to get Posies 3 inch lowering springs, from preliminary checks it looks to clear the tires pretty good. I'll setup motor/trans mounts without the inner fenderwells, to check all clearances.

We had to hand drill deep / releive / tap for new ARP studs to fix the messed up threads on the load side...better than new! THANKS BUD!

Was hoping to cruise today .
Last thing on the list was bleeding the brakes...master cylinder all rusted out in the front chamber..last one on the island comes in tomorrow...
(Stainless break lines, all new calipers & cylinders...flush out the lines!)
    Maybe tomorrow?

    fullsizeoutput_6c.jpeg IMG_0442.JPG Nice '56.

Reminds me a lot of my now de-HAMB'd '55 when it was in it's shop truck look. As for the back up lights, I like them a lot. I saw this truck at a local cruise show and found the same or similar motorcycle signal lights I just haven't installed them yet. IMG_0951.JPG

    That's yours in different stages?....
Dig the Green 2 Tone Look / Wheels.
de-HAMB'd means Painted or Billet wheels?

    Update...
When you buy someone else's project....better check all "Vital Points"
Nut and bolted the car - had it alligned...

Two days later, I looked underneath & found one front nut missing?
The tip of the lower control arm bolt had sheared right off...!?
The bolts (threaded both ends) that was on the car (All bushings had disintegrated to dust)
was grade ??/crap and they had Acorn Nuts!! in the front!!? & Ny-Locks in the back...Fine thread...
Heidts told me they used 5/8-11 - 13 (Course) Grade 5....(& No Acorns!)
    Glad it happened before ...?....?
    Locally Found Grade 8 - 5/8-11 - 14 (thread's perfect after I cut off an inch) with G8 nylocks & washers. ($85)

Also rewired the rear lights - had speaker wires back there...

    Back to cruisin' soon!

Classic Performance Products uses acorn nuts on the front and nylock nuts on the rear of the lower control arm bolts on their ifs setups..not sure of the thread pitch but I know they’re 5/8”... not saying yours had CPP bolts in it but I have a CPP setup that hasn’t seen the road yet so now you’ve got me wondering about it’s durability...

    CPP do sell Heidts setups...?
    upload_2019-7-25_12-14-39.png
Maybe it was the original bolts...??...looked funky-ish.
Heidts did confirm it was their setup (old) based on pictures i sent...
The bolts could have been stressed when we drove the truck to my buddies house...
..Without any bushings!...?...Yeah, It was a bit "Squirly"
