Just received my exhaust headers from Red's for my AV8 and to tell you the truth they are beautiful. I really don't want them to rust and I don't like the looks of wrapping them so what kind of paint or high temp sealer is recommended to keep them from turning into rust.

Is there a high temp clear that could be sprayed on???

If I have to paint them it would probably be black or maybe white.
    thanks for any help.

I haven't had the best luck with Rust-oleum on headers, it blisters off.
How about treating them with oil or ceramic coatings.

Has anyone used the POR 15 high heat paint on brand new tubular headers or does it only work on rusty cast iron headers???

They have a gray color that would be perfect.

Unless you are absolutely going for a look you can't beat having them ceramic coated.
A semi-gloss look that stands up like nobody's business. My ceramic coated headers
have been on the car for 25 years now and look great. Check with a powder coater
about clearing them. It's worth the cash outlay.

Don't know if this comes in clear also but the silver goes on and stays nice and it takes touch up very well

In the past I have used a product by VHT, I used the “as cast” color on my OT 70 Cuda’s factory iron big block exhaust manifolds. Held up damn good, didnt allow rusting and didnt peel or flake off.

Clean them real good with something like brake clean and don't touch them with your bare hand before painting. You don't want oil off your hand on them. Several light coats and allow to dry between coats.

if the headers are for a flathead, look and see that where the pipes are welded to the other that the hole in the pipes are cut out all the way.i bought a set years ago and there was only about a 1/2 inch hole for the exhaust to exit. had to reach into the pipe with a stick welder turned up hi to burn out the hole.

I used KBS high heat primer and paint, the headers were used and came on a 312 in a 56 C600 series Ford truck, I had them sand blasted and then hit them with the KBS and followed directions to a T for a change, and as 46 caddy said keep you fingers off of them, I've put several hundred miles on that truck and no problems. What I have used , is Eastwoods stain less steel paint. Comes in several colors and gray is one of them. This stuff is indistructable and will never burn off. Bill Hirsch also sells it. It will last forever.
