Technical Ford 8" limited slip ID

    Can you Identify if this is an open vs limited slip at a glance

    sure, if I were able to glance into the axle holes, and see if the side gears are one piece or two pieces (the second piece is the hub for the clutch)

    is that carrier for that housing? the bearing in the second picture does not look pressed on al;l the way

    On a 9" Trac-Lok the ring gear bolts are recessed into the clutch cover. I think the 8" is the same.
    Yours looks like an open.

    By the way, the Ford 9/8" clutch type limited slips suck because there isn't room for a proper pair of clutch packs. They just get a few disks on one axle shaft that wear rapidly.

    We know the Trac Lok hat is different, is the other side/half different from an open diff?
