Well now, you've been a busy boy today haven't you? There's a bunch of these cars that I don't recall ever seeing before... starting with that red Cougar STP Funny Car in the first batch. Even a couple of shots from Muncie. Thanks for posting these up!

 

Joel Johannsen from Lafeyette posted all of that to facebook this a.m. His family ran the ''Sour Grapes'' Willy's and Funny Cars. He has more I hear.

 

I'd bet those pictures could be cleaned up by a magician that works with pictures. Cool, thanks for posting.

I think that this is Blake Hill's "Tahitian," which was supposed to be a twin to the Hawaiian. It went downhill in a hurry, last owned by Paul Gommi. New driver Gary Allen Peterson died at San Fernando in the car.

 

Red Case in the Case & Callahan rear engine car, at Colton. Red would later die in a conventional slingshot at Vacaville.


John "the Black Knight" Edmunds from Fresno, in Tony Waters fueler.

Bill Coburn's competition coupe, with lots of trophies and a for sale sign. He apparently did not sell it as it later appeared with a streamlined nose.


When this photo was taken by Norm Grudem at Pomona, Chuck Quesnel was running this roadster, which was first built by Jazzy Nelson. It survives and has been restored in black paint.


Ron DeCiccio lights up the tires at Pomona in the Mooneyham and Sharp 554.

 

Dave, nice words on the 554. Not many people today ever heard of Ron, much less that he drove 554 before Gene put Larry in the seat. I asked Gene a few years ago, what he did to get the car from 10.0's it had been running down deep in the nines seemingly over night. Gene said" I just found a driver that wasn't afraid of it"!
