  8. The car looks killer Gary, and that's a good lookin' small block Chevy! Where'd you pick up the valve covers – they look like they're for a hemi maybe? How did you attach them? Are the Chevy covers hidden underneath?

  16. I hope you know I'm just joking. The car really does look awesome, hemi and all! And you've nailed the stance – I wouldn't mess with it. What are your wheel and tire sizes? What's the rear bolt pattern?

  17. Of course! :D
Fronts are 145R-15 on 15x3.5" Fenton Gyros.
Rears are huge 315-70-17(definitely not traditional, but 70 series sidewalls & highway treads make 'em look ok) on 17x9" ET-3 Classic 5s with max available backspacing (to make 'em look deep, like a front-engine dragster ).

Bolt pattern is 5x5.5". It's an '81 F-150 rearend. I'd already ordered the wheels based on the stock pattern, only to learn the axles were bent & needed replacing.

Rear gear is 4.30:1, but with these tires & 0.7 OD, the engine will turn ~2100 rpm @70 mph; about the same as yours, as I recall. :)

  18. That will be a great combo for the road, Gary.

I asked about the rear bolt pattern because I know of a perfect wheel/tire combo for sale that you could throw on for shows and/or that occasional drag strip pass. Would you be interested in a pair of 15x10 magnesium Americans with real Goodyear Blue Streak slicks? I tried them on my car for fun:

How about a sweet high rise Edelbrock 6x2 with Holley 94s for that hemi?

  20. Dave, I'm really lusting after that wheel/tire combo, but can easily imagine a pleasant dinner time conversation morphing into this:

  21. I totally understand Gary. Just remember, your son is going to need a graduation gift very soon. ;)

Thanks for this posting. The car is super tough and cool. You will never know how many people you have encouraged in their build......

  25. Thanks for the props, @26hotrod.

    I’m just a guy who's not smart enough to know what I can't do… ...and have been encouraged/inspired by others; @Bass, @flamedabone, @Rolf, @hot rod pro, @Littleman, @D-Russ, @AHotRod, @HelmuthBrothers, @squirrel, and dozens more. Locally, hanging around @oj and @Dino 64 keeps the fire burning.

Right now, I’m making headers inspired by fender exits, but scaled down to a Model A cowl.
The car wanted under-frame zoomies like the Mooneyham/Sharpe 554, but there just isn’t room between the starter, pinched frame rails, and ground.

    Prototype #1: Ultra-traditional coat hangers & bricks: ;)

    Stay tuned for more!

  26. Damn ! Lost this thread, because my clicky finger "like" mantra, overtook my needless posting blabber to screw up a thread mantra. I like not screwing up a thread. :)

    ( Bookmarked !! )

Ka - ching ! Leveled up.

  27. Have you seen the pipes on this one Gary? A mini starter might help. Love the fenderwell style headers too.
