Do your self a favor and pick up some 14" Mopar Rallye wheels in the 4" bolt circle. It will really improve the handling. Or at least some stocker 14" wheels and tires. Dave
14s are in it's future, but since it has the caps, and the tires are cheap, she's opting for that route first. I'll be scoping the swaps Sent from my LGLS992 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have a 1965 Valiant, I have scrounged up a couple sets of 14” steel wheels in the small bolt pattern over the years, not impossible to find but getting harder, be prepared to pay for small bolt rally wheels, at least around here they command some money Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Nice score. The 63 to 66 A body uses the same K frame for slant 6 and V8. A V8 only center link is the hardest part to find to make the swap. Schumacher Creative Services makes motor mounts to bolt in a LA motor.

I swapped a small block into my Valiant using F body spool mounts and exhaust manifolds. Built the frame side of the mounts using the factory holes, didn’t change any steering parts. Don’t think it would have cleared power steering but everyone told me none of it would work, I was to young and poor to believe that. I have a soft spot for the early a bodies Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
She told me to tell you guys to stop. It's getting hubcaps and keeping the single throat. She doesn't know she's wrong yet Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What a great score, congrats! Probably the only one at any show or cruise night. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
So much for "happy wife, happy life." At my house, if she wants to keep the slant with the one barrel carb, she gets to keep the slant with the one barrel carb. Her car, and she is driving it, give her what she wants! If you want to make an early V8 A body, they are really fun with the 4 speed. The car was her's and it came with the V8 4 speed, but my wife wouldn't drive it. Within a year or two, she had a different car and the V8 4 speed car was gone. Happy wife, happy life. Gene
Not really, my wife is a much better haggler than I am! I swear, I think she could get some people to pay her to take something they were trying to sell! When I was in school, a friend of a friend had a hot little Dart like that. It went from a slant six to a 318 pretty quick, last time I saw it it had a stroked 360 in it. He raced it regularly, street and strip, seldom lost. Haven't thought of him or that car in 40 years, wonder what ever happened to him.
Any closer pics after the cut, buff and caps on? I had a friend once that had a old orange AMC hornet that the paint was dull but pretty decent looking otherwise. He was a paint and body guy and I dont know if he tried only a cut and buff and that wasnt good enough or what but he sprayed it with clear over the old paint and I thought it was a brand new paint job. I never got a chance to look at it real close but it looked great from what I saw.....It was the difference in how yours looks wet or dry.
Kool car. Your marriage, car hobby life is great when wife is involved and already you've learned to let her pick her car, a Smart young man you are. Enjoy !
Got to ride shotgun to the gas station and market. Gas gauge doesn't work and the radiator has a small leak. I fixed the starting issue, though. She was real giddy. You can see the top of the door is buffed and waxed. Lots more to go. Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
She had a lot of fun. What a great car for a lady. She already registered it and put it on the insurance. Got to keep the og black plates, too. Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This one isn't original paint. It's been in a couple benders and they did a so so insurance job on it. The tags were from 94, so I'm guessing the respray was in the early 80s. Looks like an off the shelf color that was similar to the original. I can't find any damage to the inner panels, so I'm not too worried for $2500. But bringing so so paint back to life sucks. There's a local paint shop that'll do a decent job for 1k. (There's an earthquake rolling through the whole time I'm typing this) Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Little 4 door 64 I bought back in the early 90s at an estate sale for 80 dollars, It was a little old ladies car that had been sitting in a shed beside her house for several years, I rebuilt the carb (first and last carb rebuild) after about burning the car...after carb replacement, It was a sweet little ol ride, granny car, slaint 6 and 3 on the tree, It would slip quietly rite on down the road with ya
Keep that car as near stock as you can! Way too nice to mess it up! I totally agree with your wife, and this is coming from an 81 yr. old with 2 hot rods and been building hot rods and race cars now for well over 60 years! Wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out for a set of 14" wheels and hubcaps similar to originals for the future, and the same goes for the 225cid that'll easily replace what I assume is a 170cid? Brakes should be a top priority NOW! Wouldn't even think of a small block V8, much less a big block. Those slant 6 engines in stock, pre smog tune were almost indestructible, and much easier to tune and maintain than those of today, and surprisingly peppy
The key words are 'she wants' and 'works a about a mile from home'. It's her car, plus a hot engine wouldn't make sense for a one mile drive.
One step at a time. Once I finish the buff. She can wax it. I have no idea what I'm doing, but is coming along ok. Sent from my LGLS992 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
