On a somewhat related note, what is the “main” difference between a Fluke multimeter and a $15 unit from Wally World? Is the Fluke worth the $ for a typical do it yourselfer?

The Fluke works right, and lasts a long time. It's like any other quality tool, you don't get what you don't pay for.

Wire it up like most Fire engines in the world! Most engines have a master cut off to isolate the entire electrical system from the battery or batteries. They do this so that the engine will start after sitting some time. If your truck is sitting alone for a spell in a place with no electricity. This is your best solution.

So a vote from me, Squirrel and Bones for the cut off switch. 1)simple 2)safety 3) theft deterrent 4) flip switch off anytime you work on electrical things
Our drag cars had a mandatory cut off on the back in plain view.
    So, so easy.
