So about a year ago a buddy posted a pic on facebook of another buddies collection of vintage olds speed equipment, in the pic i could make out a odd intake, i recognized it as being for a pruned jimmy blower, so i inquired about it. the reply, "that is a Tom Beatty blower intake, i also have a the 10 v belt drive that goes with it!" i messaged back and forth a little and got his phone number, so a phone call was made and a deal was done! I also learned that he had the motor it came off, but i couldnt afford it.

Here is what i ended up, a pruned 671 and a 10 v-belt drive! i couldnt believe it, its one of the cool pieces i own. After a little thought i decided it would be smart to get the motor this belongs on. After saving up some more dough i was lucky enough to have a buddy driving thru and was able to pick it up for me. The details on the motor are 9/16 stroke, .125 overbore putting it to 454 ci, it has Jahns pistons, an Engle solid lifter cam, head have been heavily modified, intake port dividers mostly removed, ford vlaves, conical valve springs, ported and polished, isky lifter, the block also has Veyland main caps, i have never found any info on Veyland, anyone in hamb land ever hear the name?

I had to do a little mock up of course!

I also copied the 6x2 blower top like what was likely on it originally
Unfortunately i cant pin down or prove where the motor was used but i was told it was at one time in his belly tanker, ive heard and read lots of stories of Tom bringing many motors with to bonneville and trying many many different combos and blowing lots up, the last motor that was run is the car the car now and is a destroked low cid motor.

You are very fortunate to own such a great piece of hot rodding history. What a find! The induction is one thing, but to also acquire Beatty’s engine borders on the unreal.

AND it has his name all over the parts. What a great find.

  10. How many of those do you think he cast up? Ten maybe 25 sets? Time to throw together drag car with some Minnesota inspiration! Eric I-phone dump 8-30-15 315.jpg Eric I-phone dump 8-30-15 314.jpg Eric I-phone dump 8-30-15 456.jpg

What a score ! I remember a picture of his "40" sedan delivery at the salt flats with the hood up and that type setup.

The Delivery immediately came to mind. Race cars are one thing, but when the "the pusher" has a big inch, blown, multi-carbed mill, then That is Really somethin'! You are a blessed man.

Very cool. Glad you were able to get the whole thing. Did it come with rockers? Now you just need to get an ultra rare mag and valve covers for it.

Damn, what a find! A few threads above someone just posted about a blown up flatty. I'd rather have your blown Olds than his blown up flathead , haha

  22. This is your day. Be thankful, some of us old timers were never able to find, and buy, treasures such as you did

So this thing runs 10 off the shelf Gates style belts all in a row? That's crazy! And I assume the engine started off as a late 394? Is the crank offset-ground, or was it a custom made thing? That's a lot of cubes for an early Olds motor. Very wild stuff.

    yeah, 10 V belts
block is kind of a oddball but i believe it to be a 371. Crank has been welded on and offset ground.
