I like chrome steeliness but I think they look much better with black walls. White walls look better to me on a painted wheel.
I have always liked the look of the chrome steelies. Blackwall/white wall. that is entirely on the stotyle and somewhat the year of the vehicle along with the actual total build of the vehicle. Wide whites look perfect on the little gold truck HRP showed because they are part of the package while blackwalls on that truck might not look right on it unless you run big and littles. Same size black walls never look right to me on a hot rod unless it is a pre war build from the get go.
I never saw a car that looked bad with proper chrome steel wheels on it. Painted wheels can also look nice on the right application.
Not my question. Are those vented or smoothies, I cant tell from that pic. If they are vented, what manufacturer? Do you have other pics of those wheels? Thanks

Paint or chrome Hello, Of all the things we tried on our cars, chrome seems like it should win this battle. When shiny, nothing holds it back and it draws the eye to the object. Model A wires chromed or painted? In this case, painted. But, Buick Skylark wires, chrome or painted? Chromed of course. The lists will go on for each hot rodder’s choices and what the current trend is for that style of wheel. What comes from the factory is usually what the traditional look implies. Haven’t we all tried many colors of wheel paint to see which one makes your own hot rod stand out? With my first 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, I wanted chrome reversed wheels, but did not have the money to buy a set. So, I tried the bright silver paint with small hubcaps. The comments were: looks like chrome from a far away stance, but up close, it looks weak compared to a hot rod with chrome wheels, reversed or not. So, it was back to black with small hubcaps. The 58 Impala was a great car by itself. With the stock whitewalls and full hubcaps, it looked great, for going to the grocery store. But hot rod /drag racer guys just could not leave it alone and took off the full hubcaps for small ones. Then, it was paint the funky stock wheel color to black with whitewalls. That look was much improved. Then as the chrome thing kicked in again, all wheels were painted silver with small hubcaps. Jnaki But, because the costs always held back the teenage hot rod guy from doing the things we saw at those numerous car shows, it was make do with what you have. By the time I was the primary driver as a senior in high school, I finally found the combination of beauty trim rings and small Chevy hubcaps to give the Impala an extra look that no one else in So Cal had at the time. It was my version of a chromed wheel look, but far less in cost. 1962 By 1964, I had about 18 months of 5 chromed Buick Skylark wire wheels for the extreme custom look on the Impala. But in the summer of 1964, someone heisted them and the Impala was sold in the fall with all black wheels and rims.
There is no right thing, it's all subjective depending on what the owner likes, for me it's painted steel wheels. HRP
