Well I worked a crazy long shift last night and decided to do a little something before I took a nap. My buddy Steve gave me these brake linings and a pickle jar of rivets. I always save core shoes that have Ford writing and since I didnt have any good later juice brake shoes in servicable condition I lined a set quick today. Quick and painless.

They are probably asbestos so I resisted the urge to lick them.

Next up is the engine has to come back out. Again. I used the wrong bell housing so my starter plate doesn't fit right. I purchased the correct parts so that's cool. While its out I'm gonna remove the oil pan and wipe it out and inspect everything. Also gonna pull the heads. One step forward 10 steps back. I really need some better garage lighting.

Adam, great work. Can't imagine what you could turn out if you had a real shop to work in.

  6. Damn. Riveting your own linings. New England, east coast hot rodders, killin' it again.

( Uncle used to blow those big truck brake linings out, with air hoses. He made it to 80, but can't imagine those that likely didn't. Including the receptionist, first office away from the work bays. ) :(

  7. Shit... I'll sign up for 80 right now with all the brake dust I have consumed... There was one auto parts store that had their hot tank right behind the counter. If I stood there too long I got light headed. I could go home and smell the solvent on my clothes.

So yanked the engine out and ordered a bunch of parts today. I was going to mount the engine to the stand by the bell housing. Being that its a later engine I figured that was fine but a buddy of mine has warned me against it so I guess I'll either buy or weld up an exhaust flange mount to bolt it to the stand. Always something to hold you up. But whatever no problem this is fun right?

What a dream rig that is, wow, I'll never look at my pump jack hoist the same again.

It worked fine for this application but for a later model car where you didnt want to pull the nose sheet metal nothing beats an engine hoist with a leveler

My new gas tank came in. The original plan was to run an oval model T tank but I didnt feel like restoring one I have and apparently the new ones no matter where they're sold are manufactured at the same place. They're back ordered for a year so forget that.
    More updates throughout the weekend.

Its manufactured by Tanks Inc and I purchased it through Summit. It holds 16 gallons. Model number UT-N-2-T. It was just over 200 bucks I think.

Adam find some cheep gloss white paint and put those boys to painting the inside of the garage. You will be amazed how much it brightens up things.

Well today wasn't as productive as I would've liked. I had to partially rewire my welder and nothing seems to go right. I did manage to weld in a frame to support my new gas tank and drill if full of holes. And yes I got the welder back up and running enough to burn it all in.

Also I moved my engine and smashed the bell housing. I have enother one that I intended on using but still sucks to ruin vintage parts.

I'm not complaining, I still had a great day hot rodding on this Fourth of July weekend in the greatest country in the world. I just feel like it's important to report the tough days too. I want the young guys and the new guys to know sometimes building cars is a little thankless and frustrating but still worth it. You have to tough it out. Its not all instagram fame and likes on social media haha.

At first glance I was wondering why putting a subwoofer in the trunk was a priority on this car!

HOT weekend wrenching for you too? I guess I got cooked.

Oh man ive been melting in the heat both at work and in the garage but still plugging away. Popped the heads and intake off the engine. Got my engine stand adapter in so gonna pull the oil pan and check everything out. So far so good hoping to just reseal this old girl and run it.

1567349325973808472294002988443.jpg Well turns out I'm bad at updating build threads. Ive been cranking away though pitting the hours in 7 days a week.

Roof insert is installed and the windshield frame is 80% done.

Engine is ready just need to pick my lightened flywheel up from the machine shop and sort my fuel system out a bit.

The brakes are bled. I also purchased a few spare transmissions, one of which is a 39

Gotta buy a fuel filler cap. Vented the tank including a check valve to protect against fuel spill in case of rollover. It'll be nice to not have gas fumes in the car haha. Waiting for my 5/16 fuel line to come in that I ordered to run that under the car. Thought I had some but turns out I just have a bunch of 1/4" hanging around.

Also cut down a 38 Ford seat to fit. Narrow shortened and on new mounts it fits pretty good. Sorry for the crappy picture quality.

So thats all the news I can think of. Im hoping to have the engine in and spin this thing around the block this coming week with some temporary hillbilly wiring. Wish me luck. I feel like im always waiting on parts and buying the wrong shit 25% of the time but its always been that way for me so its fine haha. Thanks for looking.
