Shoutout to Biscaynes old post 9247 picture of D/SA of McClelland & Boston.
I'm trying to figure out the 1967 cars, records & Nationals, from the raw sheets.
This helps me identify that likely the cars of Scherer D/S, McClelland D/SA, Boston E/SA, and Goffinet E/SA were all L35 big cars. The 327/275 Chevelle is also a very close fit but these guys were all from the Midwest so betting the L35 was the hot ticket back there & then - even in the lower classes.

A few more "mystery combos" I'll post later.
The more incredible news is I actually found a 390GT Mustang that held the NHRA record and was runner-up at the nationals, presumably with those tiny little C7AE-A heads on it.

And yes, several Hornet-powered Hudson Jet Nationals wins & Records, so you'd think those combos were gone over pretty carefully at that level. Maybe Hudson just pushed the barriers of things like Thunderbolts with cut shock-towers, Mopar 383/343-8v engines that were never factory, Hydramatic Sedan Deliveries, automatic-backed 427 Fords, etc, a little further & got away with more (like a different firewall) cuz NHRA had a soft spot for Hudsons?

The memories and pictures here are helping a lot as I put this together.

And another old post, #9268 in the thread. Another way cool picture!
See link, Ricart Ford sponsored the "Lively Ones" race team from Ohio.
Lively Ones held the B/SA=9.50 record at 12.97 in May 1966 (C/SA=9.50 in 1966).
That Galaxie 2-door sedan comes in at 4038/425=9.50 exactly so it's right at the top of its class, perfect fit.
The big 427 LoRiser Fords did good in the auto classes but I cant find any wins/records in stick class, maybe the tires were too small for all that weight.

One of the things I always enjoyed as a kid was the Friday and Saturday nights when the races were in town and my dad loading us up in the car and hitting all the motels.
Funny to look back on now with everybody staying at the track over night. Sure would not drag your racer to the motel these days.

Without any P's Bud Lang photo Tulsa 1968.jpg A little bit different. If you look close you can see the obscure Glover and Wright.

I would not want to leave mine at a track over night if I was not there with it either in todays times!

Back in late 1972, I sold my "68 Chevelle SS/PA wagon to a guy by the name of Frank Thompson. I've since lost track. Does anybody have any info about him/the car? Thanks in advance.

I've guessed at a few more cars but this one I'm stuck on.
At the 1965 Indy Nationals, B/S=9.50 class was won by

    Orburn Thornton from Jackson, MS
    12.95 at 106.64

    Runner-up was
    Dale Bargman, 1963 Galaxie 406/405-6v
    13.04 at 110.56

I have NO info on Orburn Thornton's car - YEAR? MAKE? ENGINE?
For the B/S=9.50 class it could've been:
    64 GTO 389/348-6v
    65 GTO 389/360-4v
    65 442 400/350-4v
    62 Polara 383/343-8v
    62 Gal 406/385-4v
    63 Gal 406/405-6v
    64 Gal 427/425-8v
That doesn't narrow it down much!
Anybody remember anything about Orburn Thornton???

The Nov 1965 issue of Hot Rod Magazine lists the B/S winner at the 1965 Indy Nationals as Orburn Thornton from Jackson, Mississippi driving a 1957 Corvette. My old NHRA Classguide book shows the 1957 Corvette with the 283/283 fuel injection engine at 9.64 which falls into B/S.

    Thank you very much!!!
I don't have that issue & the results sheet I have doesn't list the cars/years.
If you have the issue handy there are a couple more I guessed at, if you can look up the year & car.
Usually I can figure out the engine from the classification guide as you did above.

    H/S John Snyder- year? car?
    J/S Gerry Williams- year? car?
    L/S Jeffrey Wilson- year? car?

I was able to figure the others out from other years/records but the year & car for those 3 would help, again all from 1965 Nationals.

Thanks for the replies about the 1965 Indy Nationals. Here are the tables I have so far as I've filled in the car and engine for each winner and a few runner-ups if they were close. 6509indy-m.JPG 6509indy-a.JPG
