So I came up with this old Offy 5024 with 4 Holley 94s on it and I've got a couple of questions. I'm building a '35 3 window with a SBC, T10, and a 9". I've been planning on using a 59 283 that will be bored to 292 or 301. I also have a .060 over 327. When did these intakes come out? I know they still make them, but this one is old.... When did they become out of date? I'd assume mid 60's? Is this too much intake/carb for my 283? Would it run better on my 327?
So...you did, did you..? Why do people start a sentence with the word..."so" ? Your English teacher is probably rolling in her/his grave..! Mike
So, it’s a forum and my tone is meant to be conversational. I’d also bet you money my english teachers don’t give two shits how I write on car forums. They’re just happy I’m not still sitting in the back trying to crack my friends up and writing essays about VW bugs. Thanks for bumping my thread, though. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I have no info about the intake except that it looks great on the 35. SO, what’s with the exhaust manifold?
The cfm for a 94 is around 150 to 175. A 301 requires about 475 cfm at 80% efficiency. You can make them work but since they have power valves it takes some patience.
Passenger side late 60’s truck rams horns flipped to the drivers side get you steering box clearance. I’ll see if I can find a pic with the box in. Piping will be a little complicated. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I don’t know when they came out but I’d be interested as well. I’m sure someone here has an old Offy catalog. I’ve got an older one that takes four Rochester 2gc carbs. I needed spacers to for the linkage to clear some old thick aluminum valve covers with them.
Thanks! That is super helpful. I have assumed that tuning this thing will be time consuming. Thats an interesting read. This intake is going to be tricky! That nailhead is a thing of beauty. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I did one of those manifolds several years ago with stromberg carbs. I never got it running correctly. I decided to try it again. This time I used Rochester 2J carbs. I acquired 4 carbs all exactly the same carbs from several 1972 Nova 307 engines....... I had a shop go through the carbs, same jets, same squirters. This whole system ended up in my 65 Corvair back seat...……...here is what it looks like. Since the carbs were all the same specs, it has been pretty easy getting it running. The only " take it apart " came when we realized that all the vacuum had been blocked by the base gaskets. This video is the first startup. I'm glad I spent all the upfront time on the carbs. I managed to steal some online images of a 1964 Offenhauser catalog. The 5024 goes back at least that far.... Anyone have an older catalog?
