So I finished the rest of the welding and placement of the FINAL pieces of the firewall and footboxes. There are 14 custom cut and fitted 16 gauge pieces making up the area plus two more I added later across the top and bottom of the center opening that gets the .25" Aluminum plate reinstalled.

    Resized_20190615_212820.jpeg
I spent quite a bit of time doing some finishing on the welds and prepped it for paint. The final coat in all the corners was 3M seam sealer that smoothed out really well.

    Resized_20190623_143237.jpeg
Then came the debate. Do we simply 3M undercoat the area to match the rest of the front or go ahead and paint the area in a satin black etc. We decided to just go ahead and shoot it with the undercoat.

    Resized_20190623_163850(1).jpeg
It looked very clean and nice and I was fairly satisfied with it. The can I was using got down on the low side and started to spit some chunks. So I gave it another shot really quick to try and even it all out with a second coat. That was a mistake. I should have let that stuff flash a bit. After it was dry to the touch I gave it a third quick coat and let it set. 8 hours later we were about to drop the engine in and I just happened to hit one of the extra coated areas with my finger nail. While the top was dry and hard to the touch just below the skin it was mush.

    SO...

I quickly scrapped the flat areas where I goofed and let it all air out over night. Tonight I can give it a single coat and (or at least one at a time) and we will be back in business. While things were drying I polished the aluminum center piece so I am excited to get it back on, the contrast from it and the black should look really cool.

We are taking the Cobra next Friday (July 5th) to weigh the little hot rod. I talked with an area feed store today and they said bring it on down.

    So any guesses?

I think a prize for the closest guess with out going over on the weight is a fine idea.
    HAMB SHIRTS.jpg
I am thinking your favorite HAMB shirt from the HAMB STORE - if they have one
in your size etc. OR a Drag Snake Shirt (if you don't already have one or one on the way etc.)
    So guess away!

As an homage to the 259 c.i. Stude V8 in my Lark, I'm gonna' guess 2590.

These are all pretty good guesses I’m gonna say 2550 I don’t think it’s gonna be any lighter than a real one I know what they weigh not to mention all the added materials and my guess includes the knock off wheels and radir slicks it would be lighter with steel wheels and the late model slicks you have

Well the original 289 cars (from fact sheet to fact sheet) seem to fall between just over 2,000 pounds up to the 2350 area. Even several sources said the Dragon Snakes were 2300 ish. My favorite entry says the shipping weight was 2,050 and curb weight was 2,275. I wish I had one of the small block Ford "Lightweights" LMAO! Obviously they were shipped without the engine and trans so someone is lying here! Probably the shipping company, snagging a few extra bucks from Mr. Shelby with their thumb on the scale!

But Jackson is correct, the big slicks and wheels will make a difference. I am pretty sure no one was weighing the hardtops the Dragon Snakes had to wear. For me I would love to be under 2500 but not sure how it will all come out. I think bare chassis and body to bare chassis and body we are probably pretty close. But I have a cage and my bet when the Cobra's were weighed back then they probably didn't even have a hoop! Engines should be close but not sure how much my trans out weighs the orignal etc. We shall see. Lots to caculate here! Good luck on the guessing...but right now your guess is as good as mine!

Jackson, you realize you and Tickety there are playing the old Price is Right Game one up! You have 2550 and he has 2551! LOL

Do I hear anyone going for 1 lb. Well I guess DDD did go for the bread box so probably close enough! LMAO!

Randall you do realize my afx only weighs in at 2928 with me in it and it’s all steel lol. Now if I can only get more weight over the rear axle than on the front for some traction lmao
