    Here's mine.

350 small block set back 20%. Turbo trans. '57 Pontiac rear end. Steel tilt front hood. 7" lift.

Car has been modified since the 60's. Original builder owned it until his passing in 2012.

Holy shit HIGH5, I've been wondering what happened to that car for years!! I used to see it occasionally sitting on Fauntleroy Way in Westseattle.. I actually think about that thing quite a bit! Glad to see it pop up on here!!

I've heard from a local old timer that there were two guys around here who each built one and they ended up pretty similar, but I don't know if thats true or not..

You and a host of others from West Seattle. It seems this car carried quite a legacy. As a ex West Seattlite, the same thoughts crossed my mind. The first time I saw it since the 70's was in 2003 when Craig Vinton (the owner) posted a for sale sign to the windshield. He didn't have it parked out on Fauntleroy Way long. Like overnight it disappeared again. I think he may have gotten "cold feet". Afterall it was his first car. Then in 2012 at his passing, the car was sold to a local resident who after buying it decided he wasn't as interested as he thought. The car came close to being shipped to the Netherlands. But the seller declined the offer. I guess timming was right for me that day. As I was driving past the new owners home, there it was parked out in front with the "For Sale" sign.

Your old timer friend is correct. There were two '54 Chevy's built identical in height. Craig and a friend of his from West Seattle High school decided to build them together. But that's where the similarity ended. Craig went on to install a Pontiac 389 while Frank stayed with the inline 6.

I feel fortunate to buy this time capsule and re-live a little of my childhood memories. Sounds like I may have for you as well. Thanks for asking.

Twisted Sister-met you at the Retro Rewind-Had no idea your Chevy was SO BAD ASS! Incredible! It's completely off the chain! Will you make it to the Torquefest with it?

Man that is so cool. I'm glad you have it and appreciate what it is. I grew up by the tennis courts by Lincoln Park, I assume the original owner must have been a few blocks north as that is where I saw the car. Are you still in the area? I'll have to keep an eye peeled for you out & about!

Craig lived across the street from Gatewood Elementary (North side of the playground). I lived on Fauntleroy Place. Drove a dark blue '54 Chevy during the early 70's. I did talk to Craig a few times wanting to know how he made a few of the modifications. But we never really sat down and talked in depth. Had the chance in 2003 and didn't do it figuring the car had sold. I really regret it. I've spoken in depth with some of his friends and got around 78 photos dating back to 1964 when he first bought the car. Some photos showed the car in the Clark Marshalls Custom Auto Hot Boat and Speed Show. Remember those? I believe he participated twice. The last show being with the car in the gray you see in these photos (paint applied around 1977). There's enough information on him and the car that I may compile a photo book for prosperity.

I played on those tennis courts quite a bit while in high school. Remember them well. Owned a home off of 37th and Morgan during the mid 70's till mid 80's. Then moved away from the area in 1984. My mom lived there until 2007 when she passed on. We sold her house last year.

I promised Craig's friends I would try and get the car back for a show at the junction maybe this year. We'll see how our time goes. The car needs one last cruise of Alki for Craig's sake. Maybe I'll see you then.

Here is one near me. They said it was customized by George Barris. It's also for sale.

And George would probablely say that he did...No Barris crest on the fender. But a very similar '54 from the southern area, was shown in Rodder's Digest article as a painted, finished car having the top chopped. The owner asked for a Moonglow style chop, the shop dropped the uncut rear window glass and made a longer tulip panel instead. What was troubling, the headliner was dropped and showed the interior roof area on this finished car had a great amount of surface oxiditzation, not saying it's the same car...Just a buyer beware comment...DYNO DAVE
