Well.... Not done as in finished, but taillights done...as for now.
So...heres a couple of shots of the 41 Packard taillights installed about 6-7 inches lower than the originals on my 48 Coupe. Made the car look even wider and lower. I also frenched the headlights and removed the directional lights up front, the split in the fenders and welded shut some holes in the hood. Oh and an aditional 1" lowering in the rear too. Up next is a Cadillac grille...I think.. .
I must ad that the top was not chopped by me but by the previous owner about 5"/ 7" 57425244_10157298541829571_1890904251652112384_n.jpg 58079782_2260673054194776_6733339286432645120_n.jpg 58376195_391065971488038_1417166034598625280_n.jpg 58383928_988316404700641_924766562601140224_n (2).jpg 58384470_412342656250413_7980823781780226048_n.jpg

  6. I like 'em. I've been thinking of trying to do something different for tail lights on my '47.

I like it! This car looks like a Cadillac grille would be an appropriate choice. If you do change the grilles, would you incorporate some kind of front turn signal/parking light?

    Thanks all.
I must ad that the chop was done by the previous owner back in the late 90s in MA. So I wont take any credit for that :) Only added all side windows and swiwel mecanism and some adjustments in doors and sealings there. But...the rear window will be lifted out to get a better flow with the sweet rooflines this car has.

I was going to ask about turn signals too. It's not exactly traditional but I saw somewhere where they have hedlights for the 46-48 Fords with built in LED turn signals at the bottom of the light.

Your car is beautiful, clean and simple. Done in desirable design taste.

You don't say what year Caddy grille you plan to use but, first consider
removing the stock top ornamental chrome piece and keeping just the 3
stock horizontal bars. You could also consider replacing that top grille iece with another horizontal bar, the same as the other 3. That's clean and simple and would look great.

Some Caddy grilles can make the front look very front "heavy" and over
power the flow of the car, like a "blobby" paper weight on wheels.. The stock 3 bars would even look better than the popular 1948 Olds grille. Remember, horizontal lines (like your tail lights) on a car make it look lower and wider.

Don’t know if vanity plates are available in Norway, but your 48 is “SOSWEET”

The 41 Studebaker taillights are a bit longer and narrower than the 41 Packard Jr lights, but Stude lights was my other choice.

  28. Did you place the old pot metal buckets inside the fender... Or did you build new buckets?

I bought complete Packard lights included repop buckets with sockets so I cut out a matching hole in the fender and made a simple piece of metal/screw contraption that, from the outside, presses the bucket against the fender on the inside together with another screw straight into the bucket through the fender. A lot of tec7 around the bucket to avoid moist and then the glass and beezle was screwed from the outside in stock screwhole. Note that neither the glass nor the beezle matches the contours of the Ford fender so I cut it to match the curve. The bucket also needed a cut and a tweak but tec7 adjusted most of that :D I cut my own rubber gaskets between the beezel and fender.
