That would be a great jump for the guys with enough gumption planning a sedan conversion into a coupe.
@LowKat how it fitting in with the rockery garden in the backyard?... Any more developments or thoughts?...
Wow, that's a hell of a score, I've started with less than that. I'd do unspeakable things for a pair of rear quarters that intact for my '34 sedan conversion.
My neighbor does real estate clean-outs. He usually previews any sale before cleanup and to see about regular scrap. If he knows there's car stuff he asks me along. Friday night when I got home he tells me there's a running driving hot rod that's going to be at the Saturday sale. He knows absolutely nothing about cars... I get there early Saturday to see this. Made out of a 34 Phaeton. Price is $19, 750. Everything is pretty much new except the body. There's no other original parts with the car. Found a Craigslist ad. https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/canby-the-odd-rod/6910412252.html. Daughter of the deceased owner was doing the sale. Most of the property was picked over by relatives before the sale. I paid her asking price on everything which came to $29. This included the car which she was glad to get rid of cuz it was rusty junk. I thought it was 33 or 34 because of the suicide doors and cowl bead roll design. Also scored... 2 coffee cans of NOS USA made drill bits, taps, dies, specialty files. 100 sheets wet or dry sandpaper. dozen commercial 8" cotton buffing wheels.. 7 large sticks (2-1/2 lb) various grits jeweler's rouge. 4 Ford 16X4-1/2 wheels (5 on 5-1/2). free because they had tires Schwinn Stingray Krate bike 5 speed shifter and derailer. vintage 20 ton Snap-On bottle jack (no handle). 2 tubes Simichrome metal polish. coffee can of assorted stainless nuts & bolts. BTW, I was kidding about the car becoming "yard art" I knew there'd be some funny reactions. Right now I'm saving it as a possible retirement project. (2 yrs away)
Interesting build there! Wouldn't look too bad if you got rid of that trunk and that goofy grille shell.
Gosh, I guess I'm out of the price loop. $19,750 seems like a lot of money for that estate hot rod. But, then again if you got everything for $29.00 you did good.
I would rename this odd rod to Mr Hankey. If you have ever seen South Park you’ll get it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have had [101] '32 - '34 car bodies and truck cabs, only got about 1/2 a body each time... never got [1] '33 - '34 roadster part...
Ended up selling to a car guy neighbor, a block away. I've seen his work and he'll do something with it. I didn't have room under cover for it.
