And now a rant! When I got there Friday and got parked, I started to walk around. I came upon 2 semi trailers full of Fat Scooters unloading. The 2 trailers had 2 levels, with scooters under and above. Now don't flame me, as I am not disparaging anyone who truly needs a scooter to get around, vets, cancer patients, very old people, leg surgery, etc. But the lazy fat people and now something new. 20 something young adults too lazy to walk, riding the fucking things plugging up the roads for cars. And they will not get out of the way for a car, like the people who really need them do. Trying to drive around the fairgrounds is bad enough, with all the people walking on the streets. I do it, I get it, it's the best way to see all the cars. But all the scooters (driven by people who don't need them) in the way, just screws up any movement completely. Now back to your usual programing.

My first time at the show and definitely not my last. @RHRH3P also rolled up from St. Louis with his family for the 1st time as well. We had a blast. We missed the meet and greet, completely lost track of time.

Not my first time, it has been about 5 years since my son and I were there last. The scooter riders have exploded. I tried to give the riders the benefit of doubt, I don't know their situation. But when I see the whole family on them I wanted to explode, and this happened more than once.
It was a great event with wonderful weather, but these scooters will kill all these types of events.

The number of scooters looks absurd. I feel the MSRA needs to have a word with the scooter suppliers and have folk show a mobility card or some sort of document to support them needing a scooter. ( I realise the scooter suppliers do not care they just want to make as many bucks as they can) If you dont use your legs you will loose them. Heck I have aches and pains , new hip etc, but walking and meeting folk is part of the fun.
If you recognise your self in this picture on a scooter ,shame on you.

Back in the early rod run days (1970-80's) guys used to build a T roadster to putt around the fairgrounds in.

Great show as always. Just read on the MSRA Facebook page about the pinup contestant from Illinois that was tragically killed in a car accident on the way to the show. Let’s all keep her family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, Bryan! @Kiwi 4d As you know, it's such an outstanding show. I like to bring the coverage to those that couldn't make it this year and to those that have never experienced this event. Those that have never been should really consider it as they won't be disappointed. Hoping to see you return, Bryan.

Made it down with my family all three days.Sisters 61 olds, brothers 62 vette and dads 55 hardtop. Was a great event as always.Between working as volunteer and meeting up with a lot of friends I am shot today. As far as the scooter rant goes I understand but have two family members that would not be able to get around at all with out them being available.Missed the meetup with with Titus with everything else going on. btt50s.jpg

Talked with the scooter vendor when my 80 year old dad with two really bad knees was picking his up.They have been restricted to 150 units in the past few years by the msra board. They do try to limit some. This year they would have allowed him to bring in as many as he could, around 500.Everything that goes on at this event is scrutinized by the board before its allowed.

As a first time attendee I can say this, I will absolutely be back with my car.

My girlfriend and I flew in from Dallas on Thursday morning and as soon as we hopped off the plane and it wasn't 90 degrees and 90% humidity I already knew it was going to be a great weekend. We stopped in a little bar called "The Nook" for lunch. They had some kick ass burgers stuffed with cheese and some amazing sweet potato fries. Score number one!

My buddy Mike lives up there part of the year and in Texas the other part of the year, so we already had a little prepping on the show but when we arrived to the show on Friday I was fucking mind-blown. Seriously. Holy-fucking-shit, I have never been to a show with that many vehicles in that proximity in my life, especially '64 and earlier. We saw a lot of cool shit Friday and left excited to see what we could find for dinner and could not wait until Saturday to see more cars.

We ended up hitting Hell's Kitchen for dinner and was pleasantly surprised with the food, atmosphere and people. Score again!

Saturday we got up and made it to the show and started walking. The weather was great with mostly sunny skies and a nice breeze. Saw a lot more cool shit and then the attendance started blowing up. There were people and cars everywhere. The rain moved in right about the time we were deciding to leave so we called it a day and split.

My goal for next year is to take off something like Tuesday to Tuesday, drive my '32 up and enjoy a nice vacation filled with amazing weather, great food and even better hot rods.

In defense of folks using the scooters, a lot of them like your dad have legitimate health reasons for using one. Hell, I’m 58 and 3 days of wandering the fairgrounds had a few of my body parts aching.

Just a opinion so take it for what it's worth.
Often people say you can't see all the cars in 3 days and some have decided the easy way is to cruise on a scooter.
I get that.Smart thinking but at the same time it clogs things up a bit. In the end it's about all the cool stuff to see and talking to vendors you only see in magazines or online.
3 days of talking to friends new and old along with the common denominator of enjoying hot rods the show is worth a few small irritations.

Saturday there was a WWII plane flyover/demonstrations as they made multiple passes over the Fairgrounds. The National Anthem was performed at this time as well.

Just to clarify....... my scooter rant had NOTHING to do with people who really need them. It was about all the lazy fat asses and entire families and 20 somethings, riding them for fun that I am bitching about.

I'll bet its been 10 years (or more) since I've been to BTTF. Seeing the pictures kind of make me want to go back. Maybe just a little.

The 1st time my wife and I went there, was 1994. I'd just got my 35 Dodge sedan running, we left home with 40 miles on the car. The only glass was the windshield. I remember it rained at least 2 of the days we were there. We had a blast. We went back for several years in a row and kind of got burnt out about the high cost and the ever growing crowds. The last time we went was the 1st year they capped the car count at 12,000. Maybe we will look into going back again. Gene
