Squirrel, thought I would pass on what I found on my .040 over Chevy 261 piston search... One vendor had the Brand of rings I wanted, but does not stock the forty overs, their .030/.060's over are $80. + ea. They list one piston # at $251.00 EACH...typo? The other vendor will sell 6 for that price. They just stock the upper cost rings, but had the piston @ $41.00... Shows that you need to keep looking, Dyno Dave
I watched some of the Youtube videos and didn't see any timed 400 M.P.H. runs that were credible. But, if it's on the internet then it must be true! Mick
Guinness world records: Shannen Seydel of Navarre , Florida USA attained a speed of 655km/h (that's 407 mph) in Ontario , Canada on July 1998 That's all I know, I was not there, my info was gathered from the Guinness world records web page and I assume it is a legit site , I can't guarantee the information is fact and there was nothing about a video available in the information that was provided so take it how you wish , it doesn't make a difference to me either way, it's a cool truck and if it's a record holder cool, if its not, WTF it's still a cool truck. Just don't understand what and why there is such a big stink going on over this truck being or not being a false claim of its speed and power, unless I missed something somewhere, especially around here where a puffed up story claiming something crazy has happened maybe....well..possibly a time or two. Anyways the truck is now ,I guess, a member of the Shock wave group of rigs so you could probably contact them personally for some info, or contact Guinness directly and ask them for a proof of claim video. Or look up Shannen Seydel , I'm sure he has a video. Good Day. Oh ya I did see a site where the truck was offered for sale and they had a spec sheet on it , under body construction it said that the body was made of fiberglass and aluminum. right after WWII plants had tons of sheet aluminum from making planes... I have seen aluminum GM rear fenders, ford front floor pans etc. ... did a ford plant punch out some truck cab with the extra metal ? ... experimenting, or see if we can type of thing...
the 1939 Ford 9N tractors had aluminum hoods. the story goes that Henry had some friend or relative needed a job, so Henry set him up stamping aluminum hoods, and other stuff. why not??
Funny to see the truck here on the HAMB. I know it well. We designed and installed all the graphics on it. I was out there last week making repairs to it as during the last run it made it clipped a landing light at over 300 mph. It did quite a number on it. But all is well and she is ready to go again. I can not verify the record but I can confirm what the graphics say: I can also end the debate: the cab is 100% fiberglass! Sent from my SM-G970U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Crap...now what? Ok ok just because there's fireworks going off doesn't necessarily mean that it's over...it's not over till the "Fat lady ...ah..sorry..the "Vertically Challenged" lady sings. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You have to wonder what that thing would do at Bonneville if it could pass SCTA safety rules. You just have to love it when guys say that ain't possible when the documentation is there.
It probably has the ability to become just a pile of parts. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's the same kind of a answer my dad would have. He always goes directly to the negative, usually as extreme as you could go , without reason, I realize because of the type of vehicle that it is and what it is capable of doing does put it into a category of total destruction of components, not to mention loss of human life, but on the flip side ...Holly shith...what a f`:"";&&`; ride that would be..there's not enough blood in my entire body, then some , to even begin , let alone sustain, the boner I would have after driving that thing....hell even if the ride ended up being on the negative side , at least I would die with a hell of a boner. They snuck it in with the title, 40’s Ford aluminum cab and it is a 400 mph fire truck with flames shooting out the back that would send the Coppertone girl running for her mommy. It’s Wicked Pissa! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Well, it is kind of cool . . . kind of like the "Red Monster" . . . instead of the "Green Monster". But, I would be happy to bet that it has NOT gone 400 mph in an accurately timed event. It is probably more of a claim that "it should go 400" . . . and we all know how that works. My guess is that they'd have a Hell of a time keeping it from wanting to go "loop the loop" when all the forward air resistance is at work. Anybody want to bet a "sixer" on it???
I hear yah . . . one of the things I have to remind myself is that "Just because you can . . . should yah???". Now some people have silly amounts of money to spend on things like this (regardless of how they acquired it). I guess it is made to spend in the end - and a LOT was spent on this contraption. But, if it makes yah happy and isn't hurting anybody, really none of my dang business. Though it does take a ton of money to make an aluminum body out of fiberglass! LOL
Or a flap wheel on right angle grinder... could be fiberglass skimmed with aluminum infused "all metal" filler. Looks like the same one piece front clip with the same chin panel http://www.usbody.com/Pages_Trucks/40-Ford.htm
I can not believe all of the BS on this truck from guys not believing the speed record claims or just the purpose of its existence. It's been documented to have run the world record speed that has been claimed. It has been proven that the cab is made of fiberglass and not aluminum even though aluminum is used in the construction of the over all body of the truck. Go look on the web it's all over on there, theres even a build sheet listing all the specs. and the materials used in its construction all from the builder owner of the truck, oh that's right nobody believes what they see on the internet, the information is all fake, well sure is alot af people on the thing for being all fake , they all can't be just on it for the porn, hell even alot of that is fake. I don't know just seems like there's better things out there to bitch about than this , And now fiberglass infused with aluminum body, Were the hell did that come from? There are quite a few people on this board who are involved in land speed racing, most of them have good understanding of what it takes and how difficult it is to successfully get a land vehicle (even a jet powered one) to go 400mph. This claim of 407mph, accompanied by no specific, pertinent information (exactly where this occurred, on what kind of surface, over what distance, how was speed measured, etc.) on how and where this was achieved, is kind of a slap in the face those folks who have put in the time and work and achieved a verified 400mph or more at sanctioned land speed events. I do believe it's possible that those two jet engines could create enough thrust to move the mass of that machine at 400mph or more. However, looking at the aerodynamics of that truck, I would say it would almost certainly become unstable and very likely crash long before it ever reached 400mph. It certainly didn't go 407mph on those tires and wheels, the centrifugal force would tear them apart. Granted they could have changed to wheels and tire rated for that speed. Also, there are very few places on Earth with enough flat, smooth linear surface to safely and successfully get a land vehicle up to 400mph and get it stopped again (Bonneville Salt Flats UT, Black Rock Desert NV, Lake Gairdner Australia, Salt Flats in Bolivia). I don't know of any place in Ontario, Canada where this could be done. Looking at the vehicle as someone with a good understanding of land speed racing, and considering the very limited information provided, the claim of 407mph just doesn't ring true.
Ok ok ok...my last post on this subject ...apparently I'm stupid and don't understand anything and everything online is false info...I get it, in my searches I did find some info that said the truck was having some handling issues and not enough braking capabilities when it was first built but they seemed to get it figured out enough to make the record run that was done in Canada, the only place he could find at the time that had a long enough shut down area. Then the truck was parked and it went up for sale.. I also put a call into the Shockwave people, the current owners of the truck, and Guinness to get copies of the record claim papers but no response at this time...but I'm done with it ,I got better things to do , that I do understand ,I guess, the truck wasn't mine anyways so I can really care less, I just thought it was a cool truck. Jet engines make thrust not horse power, but since those were first introduced in 1951 does that make them traditional?
The only place in kanada where there would be enough room to get to 400 mph and stopped again would be on some of the lakes in manatoba, when frozen. They would not have a suitable surface to attain such speeds.
Can we show a little fucking pride in our country by spelling it right. Sorry these things bother me.... Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
