History How many years have you had your car on the road?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jun 21, 2019.

  1. I know a lot of you guys like to have a different car every year where others keep the same car for many years.

I have gone through a lot of hot rods over the years but my old '32 beater and I have been together for 31 years, that's a lot longer than some of my pals marriages.

How many years have you owned your car? HRP

Got my 31 in pieces in 1975 when I was 13. Been on the road since July 1987.

Bought my '53 panel 45 years ago this weekend, June 23, 1974. Three paint jobs, 3 engine/transmissions.
    My '51 - 35 years, '64 Comet - 34 years and my '37 Chev - 29 years. I am a buy and hold guy.

  12. Out of the 44 years I've owned it: Zero. Kinda embarrassing, but I refer to the '29AA as "deferred gratification," since it has remained subordinate to resurrecting a family farm, remodeling a house - twice, a divorce, change of career in my early '30s, a second marriage, remodeling the house once again, adopting a baby boy and raising him, sending him to college and now to medical school, building a house 15 years ago, and for the past four years retirement. I'm apparently in no hurry, and learning some new car-building skill each day.

Well; this isn't a competition, but not many folks can beat Don at 51 years. I've had Clarence since February of 1973, though; 46 years.

I really can't lay claim to having my wagon on the road that many years, I took possession of the car in 1983 and drove it several years until a spindle self destructed and the car was parked in the barn until Danny literately drug it out and started restoring the car.

The wagon didn't actually get back on the road until 2012.

My grandmother Jessie purchased the wagon in 1954 from Blue Ridge Motors and it has been in the family since it was new..

I've had my 61 Dodge for 30 years. I'd say it has been "on the road" it's whole life, though I don't drive it too much.

  18. Bought my avatar wrecked in 1989. Had it 30 years. Drive it weekly.
Bought my OT stock '31 Model A 4 door in 1981. 38 years. Drive it 8-10 times a year.
Bought my '55 first series Chevy panel in 1972. Had it 47 years. It's apart right now. I'm undoing all of the bad things I did to it in the 70's.

I’ve been driving my 1948 Chevy Sedan since 1972. Drove it to high school. My father bought it new in November of 1948.

  24. With my 56 being a survivor, it was never really off the road since new so that makes 63 years...but I have only had it on the road now for about 8 and a half of those under my care. I have, however, put 15% of the total miles on the car though too so the rate at which I am stacking on miles is more than the previous owner. :D

My '55 F100 was bought new from the Ford Plant in '55, by a line worker there. He immediately customized it, gave it to his nephew in '60. Truck was stolen in '71, recovered, and sold to me, in Feb. '72.
It has been my shop truck, 'support vehicle' for our numerous Drag cars, twice to B'Ville, and daily driver for what, 47 years? Yeah, 47.
I'm rebuilding my '55 steering box, had enough of the Toyo 4 X 4 P/S.
