As a Gear head, whats not to like about anything that is related to Studebaker's? Simply some of the most coolest designs and flowing line of any of the automobiles made then.
But since I love the weird stuff, nothing quite compares to the 63 Westinghouse Studebaker prototype C.O.E. pick up truck. This is the only one made, it lives in a Studebaker museum back east, and it is very cool!

Looks like Westinghouse had the most design influence!

    Hello,

I saw a 4 door Studebaker sitting in a mechanics shop yard with a for sale sign on it. It looked old and tired. It was in need of a total re-do. The bare bones roots were there and it could be someone’s idea of a cool cruiser. The information was hard to see, but it looked like someone got started and then situations changed.

We have liked Studebakers since reading about the 1957 centrifugal supercharged Hawk in HRM. Then in 1959-60, those stomping Studebaker Gas Class Sedans of Jr. Thompson and Al Hirshfield ruled in the B/Gas Class at Lions Dragstrip.

This one needs help. Besides, you will have an original California personalized license plate exclusive to your car.

But, this one looked lonely and in need of some new clothes…

"Isn't it grand! Isn't it fine!
Look at the cut, the style, the line!
The suit of clothes is all together
But all together it's all together
The most remarkable suit of clothes that I have ever seen”

    Hello,
After seeing that green 4 door suicide rear door model, I dug through my old files to find the HRM that started the whole..."like Studebaker cars idea."
    upload_2019-7-6_4-25-0.png upload_2019-7-6_4-25-11.png 11 pages long
Our love of Studebakers started in 1957 when we read our copy of a Hot Rod Magazine with a Studebaker Hawk on the cover. Normally, I skip over those long drawn out tech articles as they put me to sleep. But, this story was part tech and part build explanation of a stock Studebaker, of which we liked. The thing that drew our attention was the stock supercharged motor from the factory.

At the time, it was the last inkling of my brother’s 1951 Olds two door sedan. He had decided to paint the Olds, since a friend said he would buy it, if my brother painted it Lime Green. So, this time period was a searching for the next level of hot rodding and drag racing scene for us. He wanted something no one else had in the Bixby Knolls and the high school scene. A Model A Gas Coupe was mentioned and researched, a 1957 Ford sedan with a McCulloch/Paxton Supercharged stock motor sedan was also in the mix.

We saw all three cars and each one had individual qualities that would meet his needs for the next car of his choice. The Studebaker Hawk was running a close second to building the Model A with an SBC motor. But soon, in the last months of 1957, a new guy popped up in the mags and newspapers that won over the choice, a 1958 348 Impala.

Still, Studebakers played an important step in our hot rod /drag racing builds for the next several years. Upon going to Lions weekly for racing the 58 Impala, we kept seeing the old Studebaker sedans of Junior Thompson and Al Hirshfield running in the B/Gas class. They were the top players in this competitive class. Every time those two came to the starting line and I had my movie camera handy. It was, listen for the motor starting, rev up while getting staged and the acceleration was tremendous for those big sedans.
    upload_2019-7-6_4-27-15.png
Their components and speed parts sponsorships were instrumental in our next step 1940 Willys coupe build for the B/Gas and C/Gas classes. The McCulloch supercharger from Junior Thompsons sedan, we already liked, from the Fords and Studebaker stock cars. (some form of supercharging was the way to be competitive) The Howard Cam influence from Al Hirshfield was chosen for our 283/292 SBC with a 671 motor in our 1940 Willys coupe.
