Like the new nose !!!!!!!

 

i know i have been silent on this project for a while, things have just been busy with it and other stuff. anywho, we are hoping to finish up the metal work on the car this week. as of now we just have to button up 2 belly pans, mount tail lights, and some dzus fasteners. here are some pics of it out side from today. excuse all the dirty finger prints all over it, and it still needs sanded to get the texture even across the entire car

not polished. it needs to be perfect for it to be polishable, and it is far from that lol. so it will get a brushed finished to hide some sins

 

Not being an expert I looked up these Watson Racers and they for the most part seemed to be sporting colour...being that they were painted racers hence I guess Gary's question.

Mike you with a chuckle say this isn't good enough for polish which I understand. I wonder would the finish of the true Watson Racer have been any better prior to, being that they wore paint, numbers and graphics.

I can understand a desire to run it in its birthday suit.

Raw workmanship much of it witnessed from within the walls at your place of execution of art in metal...is truly many times to nice to paint......my compliments again on sharing these incredible builds here with us...I do feel mighty privileged seeing and appreciating them.

I am glad to have seen you driving these...you deserve it.

 

got the sheet metal about wrapped up, just some fine tuning and a few cleco holes to weld up. took it out to the local friday night cruise in

Mike the pics your postings are not showing up and its the curse of Photobucket...I do totally despise that service...its awful...I have three separate browsers at I saw the pics briefly then they were gone...okay now they work on Explorer...I dunno just glad to see your work.

I am using Firefox...I just ditched the Photobucket fixes I had installed and reloaded them and low and behold pics are there now...I dunno...That service still has messed up so many threads...Thanks Jiminy...

Just noticed this thread now. What stunning craftsmanship!

A question on something I've been pondering for some time, related to multi-tube chassis construction. In the early photos I noted that the basic structure (upper and lower rails and vertical uprights), but no diagonals (which concerned me a bit!). But as the thread progressed, said diagonals popped up, unheralded, in each bay to form a proper structural configuration. My question is, how did you fit the diagonal in? Could the initial assembly be "deformed" enough to fit the diagonals in, and holding off their final welding until all diagonals were in place, and the chassis clamped down to a chassis table? I understand that close tube fit-up is important for proper TIG welding, so I assume the diagonals cannot be made "short", which would make for a sloppy fit. Of course, many multi-tube frames (e.g., most Formula Ford road racing cars) are made from square tubing, which precludes this difficulty. Although, I think it was Watson that said "Real race cars have round tube chassis."

 

some sad news. The owner was involved in an accident in the roadster a couple weeks back. it doesnt look bad in the pics, but it is looking like it will total out through insurance. He hit a vehicle pretty hard, guessing around 50 mph, frame is bent and diamond, front end and suspension wiped out, rear end and suspension wiped out, and a bunch of other damage over all. If the car does total I am going to try to buy it back and rebuild later on down the road
