Just got my A sedan started and at an idle, I'd say around a 1000 rpm at the time, my tach is reading 3000. Is there a way to change these from 4,6, and 8 cyl? I'm thinking that's the problem but it's been so long since I fooled with one I can't remember.
If I remember correctly, Dixco tachs had resisters on the back. You removed one or both to set the number of cylinders.
Finally found an old Hamb thread by googling it about 4 different ways. They are suppose to have 3 resistors, red, blue and brown for a V8, 6 cyl you remove the red one. My question is if I'm missing one where in the world would I find resistors?
You might have a job ahead of you trying to find a Radio Shack....most of them went under some years ago!
"Digi-Key" - If you can navigate their website (not an easy task), you will find they have everything you might need.
We still got a radio shack but like was said I'm not going to know the resistance or value if it's missing. I got to much other stuff to do right now, I'll tackle it once I get it on the road.
Measure the ohms on the ones you do have then extrapolate the difference between the 4 and 6 then add or subtract that number to the 6 and you should be in the ballpark for an 8.
Hi Mike. I have an old dixco tach with rusty bezel and cloudy lense, but still has the 3 resistors. You may have it for no charge for the resistors if you pay for the shipping. Clete
