    Ramey and Ewens built this sedan for Bonneville, but later ran it at the drags, here in the pits at Fontana. It met its end here when the throttle stuck on the fire-up road.

    Tom "Acmo" McLaughlin and Bob Routhnwaite borrowed Bruce Raibel's track roadster and dropped their GMC into it, to run at Saugus. Both were members of the Glendale Coupe and Roadster club. Tom got the nickname from his practice of using Acme beer cans as carb scoops, as seen here.

    Bob Stratman's A/D, at the 2 lbs./cu.in. break. Tough to do with a single engined car at the time. Looks like DIMS. Also, the first race car I ever drove. Regards, Chase

    This one has been seen more often than even the Wenderski shot (and the Valley Construction Fiat) with Gary Reynolds posting it in 2015 and 2017. I guess that we will see it again in another 2 years or so. Not sure who is in Don Johnson's Beachcomber as quite a few well known shoes drove various versions of the Beachcomber including Hank Westmoreland, Tom McEwen and Bob Muravez. It is definitely not the Goose though.

    This may be Jack Jones prior to his standout Top Gas career where he won Indy twice (68 and 70) as well as the 69 World Finals.

    Hello,
    Before Stellings and Hampshire, there was the Tapia Brothers SBC FED with Bobby Tapia in the seat. It was one little fed that was very quick and fast.

    Tapia Bros 1959

    @Stanback
    I went to Lions in 1959. If I remember correctly (probably not), Bobby Tapia's 3-carbed (gas?) Chevy dragster beat the Green Monster in eliminations.

    Another comment – early in the first film, it looks like Lefty Mudersbach doing a wheelie in his twin-engined Chevy. Never saw that before.

    Hey S,
    Sorry, I did not get back to your post with a reply. Yes, the Tapia Bros did beat the Art Afrons Green Monster. It was called: "Bobby Slays the Green Monster." In 1959 in a highly publicized match race, Bobby Tapia in the Tapia Bros SBC race car called “Almost Grown” beat Art Afrons in the big Green Monster #11.

    FROM THE TAPIA BROTHERS COLLECTION
    In my further research, I was able to get in contact with one of the Tapia Brothers. Some more information popped up that I applied to another thread on the HAMB. It is relevant here, too, since it took place at Lions Dragstrip. Sorry, I did not get any films of the actual race. But, the photograph was pretty popular, then and now.

    Tommy, re post #58203, here is the full image in a bit higher resolution as shot by me at Adelaide International Raceway. The car was from Melbourne, Victoria and was raced by Wolfgang and Carolyn Stuth. IIRC correctly it had six cylinder power initially before the V8 as seen here. Carolyn drove initially but I think that Wolf may be at the wheel here. The car in the other lane is the Marafiote brothers '61 Holden (GM) which was 318 Chrysler powered.

    The wheels are from Dragway and were very popular in Oz at the time. The company was started by Ian Splatt and has been around for 50 years or so building complete cars as well as wheels. Ian's daughter Rachelle drove the Luxor Casino T/F car here in the US in the 90's and is the only female member of the 300 mph club. She recently got back into T/F in Oz with her own team after stepping away to have children. I crewed for her dad when he drove Vic Muirhead's A/FA in the early 1970's as seen below in another of my photos. The rear wheels on both the gasser and the altered are also from Dragway and have steel rims on aluminum centers.
