I have a few in progress:
392 Early Hemi for a gentleman in Iowa for his FED.
    IMG_20181103_074113_312.jpg
A 270 based Dodge for a gentleman in Oregon.
    IMG_20180923_073921_896.jpg
If I can ever find some time I need to get back to a 327 I have. Block had some external cracks and I found a nicer replacement block to move forward with.

About to assemble my blow 289 59L flathead. No pics yet, I'll post some for giggles. I've pulled together a bolt together blower setup...I'll share all the parts once it's confirmed if others wish to duplicate.

Got the blown 392 ready, I'm hoping that it will power my '48 Austin in the future. Then there's the 425 Buick that's going into the '33 PU and the '67 350 that was going to go into my roadster for the summer but I'm going with a 345" '56 Olds and a hydro instead. There's also a 375 hp 396 and a 283 with 3 twos around here somewhere.

1963 Pontiac 389 Tripower with 421 HO heads (#716 also used for 64 GTOs)...

I started chasing this engine about a year ago and finally landed it. Drove 6 hours today to pick it up and get it back to the shop. Going to use the heads and intake on another 389 short block (‘65 block with block mounted starter) that I have for the avatar ‘64 so it will be a perfectly H.A.M.B. friendly.
It has an interesting story but until I verify it by investigating the engine I’ll save it for another discussion. Lol

My wife and I just went to Cincinnati last weekend and bought a 455 4-bolt main 360 Hp complete running engine (minus the carb) as well. She enjoys the trips and meeting other car guys like her husband. Go figure that one...

Keep hunting! They are still out there!

    Regards, Randy

well i've been staring at this rambler inline six, another 195.6 OHV from 1965 (probably the very last US passenger car flathead), out of the half dozen i've collected this is the only one that's standard bore. probably a 'replacement' engine it has all the latest (sic) stuff, like fancy "PCV".

but i've been irrationally itching for the other 195.6, the flathead version. same crank, rods, timing chain, accessories, ... (the OHV was made from the venerable Nashcan flathead, long boring story). i haven't owned a flathead in too many decades... that's it in the foreground. i'm slowly extracting the frozen head studs from the block. it's a '58 engine.

but the flathead came with the shinier item in the second pic. it's a Toyota Previa supercharger. i think i need to attach it to the L-head, no? very brief math shows that with say 5, 6, 7, psi boost, the L-head will produce as much power as the stock OHV (80 vs 125 hp). still...

Since I finally have a true H.A.M.B. friendly engine to tear down, I may just do a thread on it! I bought a ‘66 389 a few months ago that the story didn’t match what the seller said but alas it’s 1 year newer than the rules allow so I only briefly mentioned it.

The 455 is clearly OT and I hesitated about even mentioning it but did so to show and encourage those that the hunt is still good for this old iron. It is a 1970 YH engine with dated match #15 heads and intake. That’s a one year only combo and came out of a Cat or Bonne and was rated at 360 Hp. Pete McCarthy’s book and other sources denote it’s a 4-bolt main block. I will prolly just check and confirm and then pickle it because the engine in our ‘64 GTO is slated for an OT TA within the year so I have to get moving on the period correct 389. While I’m sure I could make the goat faster with the 455 I choose to stay with the period correct parts so I can discuss it here and maybe attend some events with it. Plus I’ve always wanted a tripower 4-speed 64 and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Lol. Regards, Randy
