  2. The first time I meet Torr was at the Rockabilly Rumble. I asked him how about 6x2 set up worked.
He said, "I don't know. I was pretty drunk when I tuned it."

15 years ago and the thing that stands out to me is, most cars are painted, some in primer but a total lack of "fake patina".

One of the spindles from the Boston Shitbox dragster still in its gold paint glory. Torr dropped off, traded or threw in my backyard many of the parts for that car over the years.

  8. Not sure of the year that I went. But I do remember that the police came to our motel. They made everyone leave, or go inside their rooms. I had my 29 coupe the { Lo U.F.O. }. Everyone was doing burnouts, and just have'n fun. I posted some pictures earlier in this thread. I wish there were more Hot Rod events like those.:) Ron.... Just a note, we were'nt be'n too crazy. lol

  9. Was it black primer with bright green and yellow flames, and wide sprint car dirt tires? Seams like Nailhead powered, and port holes in the hood.

I only stayed over night once, but I remember the parking lot was crazy!
Too crazy for me I went to bed early!
That was the year someone blew up a transmission in the parking lot of the Wellesley Hotel.

  10. Yeah Robert, that sounds like my coupe back then. Only it had a 389 Pontiac.

  11. I remember, it was 2002 I told the Ford dealer in the interview (three months before the show) I was working then as a lube, oil, filter man before going to school. I told them I had plans for that weekend and that I asked if it was O.K. to leave at noon the Friday of the show.
    They said "Yes."
The plan was to meet up with Doug Anderson and follow him in his A coupe and follow him.
12:00 noon the Friday came I was ready to leave and the service writer brings in a dual rear wheel F-350 for a full service and tire rotation.
I said I told you I need to leave at noon today.
I ended up staying because Doug had the same issue at work. I quit the Monday after the show
When we did meet up, it rained all the way from Grand Gorge N.Y. to Hartford.
I remember pulling into the hotel parking lot and seeing your coupe.

The next morning I gave Road Agent John Deware a ride to the tire shop to fix a flat on his 1959 El Camino

  14. I think (fear) events like this are a thing of the past.
The traditional hot rod seen is much different then it was 15 or 20 tears ago.
Back then it was a bunch of young guys building cars period correct parts that were fairly cheap because no one wanted them, it was also older guys (I mean that with respect) who remembered those style cars and started building or had parked them years before and dug them back out. For the most part you had to go to a show like the Rockabilly Rumble to see them.

However the gold chain, pinky ring, check book builders saw that our style cars were pulling people away from the Boyd built billet covered Easter eggs and soon they had to have one.

Then the A.A.C.A. types showed up with their this part on your is wrong, "You can use heim joints on a fifties car they didn't have them" ect...
I always pointed out the that W.W. II air craft were full of heims.

Then the art cars showed up.

I think that is why true vintage racing is coming on so strong, Like-T.R.O.G. or The Mohawk Valley Vintage I am involved with.

It is still fun and low key.

  16. I always considered the Road Agents show the best show in New England.
I miss it and the characters there I met as we had so much fun.

I went to one show back then, blew me away all these "kids" with neat, home built cars. Didn't bring a camera but wished I did. The few early Alter Boys shows I attended were really good too. Framingham and Natick I believe

Ralphs was a fun spot but my favorite year was the last AmVets show in Natick. I think that was 2012.

  22. Jim Gove's Coupester is over seas

Last I knew "Little" Tony Jobson still owned his 49 Chev.

    As does Joe Alexsander
Dave Paras's just bought his truck back

Bruce Comboni still owns his chopped 55 wagon

Al Clark is owns his R.P.U.

Joe Potter sold his Model A coupe to Tim Chapman. Both live in the Springfield Mass area

Rodger Merit's 32 Chev. is overseas (Italy?)
Torr Skoog's Merc is still in Boston last I knew it had a Big Block Chevy.

Doug Anderson sold his coupe it was in Canada, and resurfaced on the H.A.M.B. a coupe years ago the new owner was about an hour nouth of NYC

Cool to see Doug Anderson's coupe. Kind of a tribute to his departure from this Earth. Rest in Peace Doug.

  28. Robert, that is my son Mike with his back to you, wearing the Rumbler's shirt. If I am not mistaken that is Sarah Marquis, Chris Marquis's wife, between you and my son Mike.

Me checking out Doug's coupe. The first time I met Doug was getting gas here in town on his way to GoodGuys about 1998 (I was 16) my dad told me about the hot rod getting gas, so I walk up to see it and ended up becoming good friends with Doug.
