Got about 7' feet of DOM tubing, tapped the ends and drag link is done. Had to push it outside, step back and take a look.

 

Doctor says I need more magnesium.....I'm cool with that.

So True Jethro. An example is I've been wondering if I might need to rework the front spring mount to get the front of the car lower with that CAE axle but after seeing it outside it has the stance I was after.

 

Good looking shop help there supervising.

 

It's been a long time coming but was able to pull the trigger on a Fabcraft Third Member. Nice piece and Dave was great to do business with - I highly recommend them.

 

Got the back of the seat knocked out. When the time comes the plan is to have the side panels wrap around the car to the back of the car to the same uprights.

 

After looking for 2 years for a gennie Chassis Research pedal, I gave up and Thank God for Dennis at O'Brien. He not only came through with a great piece but he's an Alliance Vendor to boot!!
This is where it's finally going to end up. After building the bracket I've had it several places in the car and this is the most comfortable with ease of getting in/out of the car so that's where she'll go.

 

Starting to come together - bit by bit.

Countn'..... Any reason you didn't come off the side of the block for mounts to the rails? I started out using the same front mount as you but moved out to the side many years ago. I was a cleaner look for me and I started drive a lot off the crank/damper area. I'm impressed by your craftsmanship. You to be congratulated on your work and perserverance.

Great observation Jimmy Six - originally I was mocking up with a military block and was making templates to come off the side bosses on the military block to the rails. When the 12 Port came into the picture it is rebuilt and ready with a civilian block so I followed Bob Corbett's suggestion of just using a truck front mount and making a cross-member with a flat spot for the truck mount to bolt up from the bottom.
The thought is with that design I can then shim at the front of the block if I need to and/or at the mid-plate for alignment of the coupler.
You bring up a good point though about if I want to start driving stuff off the crank - I always appreciate your input and so glad you're following along.

As I mentioned Joe Umphenour's first dragster was the inspiration behind this build. Here is a rare shot of driver Mike Franckey about ready to unleash the 12 Port equipped TE-448.

Drew this up to have a buddy get a header flange widdled out.




Here it is on the engine. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and now comes the fun part of figuring out what kind of pipe style...i.e. straight out, up and back, etc...

Wow, nice choices.
The straight ones are crazy.
The zoomies are cool but I think more fitting under a funny car body because they have an unnecessary bend to them coming out of the port.
I like the ones in picture 6, out and to the back. Clean, simple, functional.

Great build, love the chassis, I owned an original one. The jimmy mill is cool stuff.

Bob is the man so I understand your point. My son and I are putting our old Bonneville/lakes 40 Chevrolet on the street. It had both side and saddle front mounts and they were rigid. We are using the original record setting civilian block and I made side mounts for stability. The rear will get 55-57 car bellhousing mounts and the 4-speed, a lower factory mount. The sides will sit on truck mud flap rubber above and below the cross mount.
I asked him if he want one of my 12 ports and he said no.. He wants it like we raced it but a little calmer. I'm glad I collected 50 years of GMC speed equipment parts....

That's great stuff Jimmy Six and I for one am glad you collected a bunch of GMC speed parts. You don't by chance have an injection setup for a Fisher do ya?? I'm looking forward to seeing your coupe back on the street and I'd like to check that car out in person someday!!
