Hot Rods I think I’d like to try a 1959 Apache truck project

i found an all original , driveable 59 Fleetside. It’s got major patina, it sits so high in stock form you’d get a nosebleed. Can I lower it 3” with bolt on stuff? I’m not a skill level that can cut up frames and notch stuff and all that. Basically my question is...can this be done by someone with medium level skills? It’s a 3200 series pickup. Thanks in advance. Oh...I forgot...it’s leaf spring front and rear, and they are some heavy duty looking bastards.

I never had any desire to lower mine, although putting the big block in it did drop the front just a bit.

Maybe I just grew up in a different era....when I was a teenager, having a lowered truck was unthinkable paint13.jpg

    Nice truck Jim !
I have had a bunch of 55-56-57 Chevy trucks over the years and even parted out a couple of Cameo's ( don't ask).
Now I am thinking of doing a Cameo.

Get the truck, make it safe and drive it. If you want to modify the suspension, lowering springs, front and rear, are available. A fairly easy mod that can be done in a weekend, keep us in the loop.

I'm just finishing my 3200 Fleetside. I used lowering springs front and rear, front disc brakes. It looks great to my eye. Be sure to spend the small money to change out the steering components. Fun easy trucks to work on, some great parts suppliers out there.

I too am from a time when we didn't lower old trucks. I have a hankering for another Task Force that will retain stock suspension.

  11. Posies sells 3 inch lowering springs front and rear with teflon buttons to improve the ride, here's mine with the rear springs installed.

Someone said TF trucks are "fun easy trucks to work on", I couldn't agree more.

    Good luck with your project...

  16. Gotta love the '58/59's! I've had my '58 for over 20 years now. I was just getting ready to think seriously about paint and.... got distracted with another project.... LOL

Black Sheep has been my username on every auto forum and message board I've ever participated in. Inspiration for the name comes from an OT '69 GTX I've had for 37 years. Black paint, black gut, black hood stripes and a bit of an attitude. Fun car...
