Given that they are brand new, and all of the work to run them on the ford brakes is done I figure you’re getting what you paid for

  5. Already run originals on my '56 Olds rear on my Willys.

Nice originals are at least $100. These new ones are $300, but ready to slip onto a 40 hub with no machine work. And they are standard size. Sounds like a good deal.

Spendy but with the going price of originals that are usable plus the cost of machine work if you can't do it yourself or get a buddy deal the price might not be that far out of line.
They don't have that ugly balance weight on them that gets in the way of some popular wheels that are run with them either.
It might be interesting to know what guys have been paying machine shops to rework the stock Buick drums to go on a Ford Hub.

In my view, one of the main advantages to these is being able to run them on the outside of the hub. My understanding is that with originals, the path with less machine work involves using later hubs that have the drums inboard. Running drums on the outside makes brake maintenance much easier...

They look good, and reasonable considering....

But I'm confused. I thought we bashed Speedway on Fridays?

I'm happy to see they stepped up to the plate and made these! I don't recall who, but wasn't there someone here on the HAMB trying to bring a similar product to market? .. But didn't end up making it happen.

if speedway is making them, chances are somebody else made them first and speedway bought a set, sent them to china and asked their buddies can you make these cheaper?

Parts are only original once wether factory or by an innovator. Everything else is a copy.

Read that thread and it appears that he was looking to Speedway as a guide on spindles. Hollywood Accessories had finned backing plate covers long before Wilson 0FF137C0-366B-40A7-8AD4-C7DE52EA8CCC.jpeg

It is a huge undertaking and investment for the number you might be able to sell a year.. Something that Speedway might be willing to absorb as the guys who buy drums probably spend a pretty good stack of coin on the other pieces for the front end and brakes.
A guy doing it on his own has to pay for a foundry to do a run of drums and come up with the cast iron rings for the wear surface and join the two together is in it pretty deep before he sees a return and if he only has a single item for sale and no other parts or services it really tightens things up.
Searching to see if anyone does replace the liners I did find that the SoCal fakes /covers for regular drums are 575 a pair https://www.socalsac.com/product-p/socal001588.htm

Just dragging this thread back, as a follow up to see whether anyone has actually bought and fitted a set of these yet, or knows anyone that has, or anyone actually seen a set yet....??

They are for the rear. $200.00 off for unpolished. Look to me like heat retainers.

Mr48chev, Try J&G, they reline aluminum drums and they also arc shoes to match drums as well as repairing broken fins on aluminum drums.

hello from italy, i need help.
I'm looking for part number accessories for these Wilson Welding Aluminum Finned Support Plates:
12x2 shoe, spring, hardware kit, 1 1/8 cylinder, tube

    Attached Files:

  30. You can call Bob. Or maybe Karl Knecht knows this already.

Typically Bob Wilson puts the assembled parts' empty boxes inside .. for owner's future references.

**That's how I received my Lincoln backing plates, from Bob. With the assembled parts box emptys .. for later part number referencing. Brakes fully assembled from such. :) Maybe someone removed your empty parts boxes ?

Attaching Bob's website screenshot. Also paging Karl for you. @KKrod

Apologies Karl. Just guessing a big "IF". Happy Holidays, sir.
