Art & Inspiration Frame paint- Eastwood ceramic vs delfleet essential

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Jun 10, 2019.

  1. so I’m getting ready to paint the chassis on that Pita 54 Chevy.

I want to use delfleet essential because I like it, am familiar with it, like it, have all the accessories already and it really takes some crap!! It’s been Thoroughly abused on my trailer for a couple years now and doing well.

My buddy wants me to use the Eastwood ceramic chassis stuff. I don’t no nothing about it other than what you can learn in their ad.

Does anyone have input especially if you can give a comparison of both.

Sorry, no comparison, but I did use the Eastwood stuff. Used their epoxy prime then the chassis stuff, satin black.
Have around 30,000 miles and it looks real good so far. I'm not a clean freak, but do occasionally go to the open air car wash and blast the underneath with the wheel cleaner hot spray and then rinse. Works for me.

    Vicky, vicky vicky vicky.....

As much trouble as you have had with that dang truck, do you really want to try something new?

I think answered your own question, fist sentence second paragraph.....
I have no idea about either one but if it was me I would use something I was familiar with.

Disclaimer: I have no connection with bangshift or the wax products.
    Go to bangshift here: https://bangshift.com/general-news/...-in-car-care-is-there-really-something-to-it/

By a coincidence they have this pretty good explanation of the "ceramic" buzz word. (I know it's about wax but the guy explains what the "Ceramic" Stuff is and does.)

  5. I'm on it man
I'm not the one I need to convince about something I know nothing about
I was hoping for some help in the sway

I use Delfleet on anything where I want high gloss and awesome wear characteristics.

The ratings on Eastwood's site aren't real great, and most of the bad reviews relate to easy chipping. IMO that would be one of the worst possible characteristics of any chassis paint. Different urethane paints cure to different hardness levels, and the ones that cure rock hard are always the most prone to chipping. Kinda hard to figure out how anyone would read the info on Eastwood's own site and come to the conclusion that this stuff would be a good choice for use on a chassis.... other than maybe being impressed by buzz words like "ceramic".

Like I said, around 30,000 miles, and see no issues at all with the Eastwood stuff. I am a happy customer. Your mileage may differ.

IMG_1218.JPG I've used Hammerite/Hammertone for years. Looks good, tough, easy to touch up, and encapsulates any rust you may have missed.

@31Vicky with a hemi , I have not used the Defleet product but I have used the Eastwood ceramic so I have no basis for comparison. I can tell you the Eastwood product is tough and very high gloss and more importantly (and unlike powder coat) it does featheredge nicely if you have to fix something (like a bracket I forgot to weld on).

Don't forget to post up a pic or two of the Defleet frame paint job.

Brown truck drops this 10x30 tomorrow and since I don’t have my booth up yet this is gonna help me pull it off when I set it up in the shop, i hope.

That's a good price tag for a pop up spray booth. I bought one to sand blast a frame in, didn't work as well as I had planned.

  14. Here’s my trailer with delfleet.
    Painted 3 yrs ago
Blasted, epoxy and standard no prep trailer paint job. 24/7 out side and and abused horribly.
Walked on, drug on, uses for a work bench, welding table sometimes, hauling junk, and good stuff too. Everybody sits on the fenders.

  15. defleet is good stuff
I never experiment with unknown stuff when it has to work

    I have used the por15 2k paints
I restored a baptismal for a church. Needed a product that could be submersed 25/7 and salt water safe
stuff is the closest to jell coat I think you can get.
5 years so far and no issues
A friend of mine uses it on his machine equipment
the paint is constantly covered in cutting oil, coolant and metal shavings
    stuff looks great
only draw back is it is extremely humidity sensitive when sprayed

  16. “Argent” parts
    Lots of them

  18. One cheesy hokey ass spray booth ( keep the shit inside from getting all over the shop thingy) is operational.
It could be pretty good with more effort.
Normally people go home and quit after 8 hrs oh so. I’d like to knock off and shoot this fresh. I’m taking a little break then going to hit it for another 8 on second shift.
Supposedly this truck drives out on Saturday,,, almost like TV show lol

Black and shiny. Nice. Looks like it flows nice.

  21. Billy, it’s raining like hell and I mean BAD
52 fucking degrees smack dab in the middle of June. Froze my ass off painting this thing.
Running activator that’s 2 ranges off temperature wise. It flows really nice. 2nd and 3rd coat got the clear reduction flows even better it came out tits.

Should look really nice as a rolling chassis.
Argent suspension, stainless lines, aluminum coil overs. He cheaped out on the shiny ceramic jet hot exhaust coating,,, that was the key idea and focal point of the chassis. High temp aluminum paint does the same thing right?

It’s going down to 46 tonight
