Projects Please HELP!

I'm to the point of installing the interior door panels but I stupid stuck. It's a 1951 Chevy Styleline Coupe. When I got it the rod that goes up to the pull knob that locks and unlocks the doors were missing. I've been looking at the interior door handle with the rod that goes to the lock mechanism. I've played with the mechanism and for the life of me I can't figure out how this thing locks and where that vertical rod would attach on the mechanism. Please someone explain the ways to lock and unlock this car and where the rod attaches.
I am truly thankful for any help I can get.
