He has learned a lot and his attitude has slowly changed. He is getting more confident and is starting to see the "big picture". The white board is still in use and he monitors it daily to see what I leave him to do. He is out of school for the summer, so he is putting in 40 hours a week now.

 

That is cool. Silas is putting in 40 hours a week this summer too but it is working for Nostalgia Sid...so he can pay to finish building his pickup. Silas is good at the big picture...but the details eat him up...at least working on them.

You're are teaching him what it's like in the real world. He may or may not thank you for That, but it is a great lesson just the same. I can't wait to see the final product, thanks for sharing it,

 

Yeah, when we started I was lucky to get 4 hours out of him. After multiple people made fun of him for being part time, he decided to start putting in 8. He's a good kid, I'm glad he is sticking with it.

 

I like your project and your progress. I've had a couple TF's over the last 20 years, miss them. I started a project with my oldest son when he was 13, we're still wrenching on it and he's 20 but he's gone from a used 283 and 16 second 1/4 miles to a 12.8, now going to an L88 to break more parts!

TF trucks are generally out of a youngster's price range, but I may look for an early 60's GM truck for my youngest and see if I can get him interested.

Inner fenders and radiator core support on. Radiator is on order. Power steering lines installed.

Hopefully this will all still line up.

 

Today was a milestone. We really needed to get this cab in color. Thanks to @Mr48chev for helping us nail down the color he was after. I was skeptical, but I think it will pop with all the white accents. I have let him make all of the decisions on the colors, style etc. He has a vision and I am on board with it. It will be a great driver and nothing trendy or dated that he will regret.

We spray Tamco products and we like the way this covered. Still need to do the doors. Still have some touch ups where I got heavy. Why are the runs always in the most obvious places?

Those are "flow checks". Great color. What a is it? Good progress, nothing is more encouraging the moving the ball down the field.

 

It’s a 2007 Toyota Voodoo Blue. Came on the FJ series cars.

 

Great color. It really pops, I dig the two tone as well. Should turn out neat for him. Heck my HS car was a beat up 88 Celebrity.

As Colby's mom, I can say this project and summer have been a game changer for him. A kid whose life use to revolve around video games, now looks forward to getting dirty in his Uncle's shop. His patience has grown as he's worked closely with his 80 yr old Grandpa and oh the things he has learned..lol! He still has a long way to go, but I've noticed his bedroom wall decor starting to accumulate with car posters and he likes to point out things he thinks he knows about engines, years & makes of vehicles and such. His confidence in himself has grown. I found him cutting up trees in the backyard with a chainsaw yesterday which is something he would have never done before. He's learned a great deal this summer about life, work ethic, and attention to detail and lack of! I can never thank my Bro & Dad enough for giving so much of their free time to this project. These are memories he will carry with him forever

Wow! What a great project!

 

Great story and build! I can relate as this is how I got my 68 Camaro. Spent many summers at grandpa's house working on the car and learning everything I could. Its something you will never forget.

Just a side note- On the few days that I forced myself to go over and help out sand or whatever... it was strange how I was always was given those pieces that no one else wanted to do....I probably should help out more but you know..I don't want to intrude on all that testosterone bro time. Plus Chris mis-treated me when I was a kid..forcing me into the hot garage as cheap child labor to sand on his truck or whatever....not today satan....not today...lol Alright everyone back to work.

...been following your build, very nice work, mine's built very much like yers but mine's down n dirty,...just a driver,...been drivin it a couple months now and everybody seems to like it...mine's runnin a 292 inline Chevy....can't wait to see yers come together.
