A lot to be said about this comment, a brother wanted to cc my aluminum winfield to be dead sure about the CR..I answered 'why? Im gonna run it no matter what' ..its the same with horsepower, who cares what it actually is,when the car is fast enough you'll know..

Is that the needle wedged in there?

  10. So a couple months back someone was mentioning the oil pump drive on a Donovan block.
The issue was/is filling the two grooves of the drive housing.
Yes, it is a must for the Donovan motor, suffice it to say the "B" Ford and Donovan are very different.
On the Donovan, even if you run an external pump you must put the drive housing in place and block off the two reliefs. Just for reference, if you get to working on one.

Getting further along with my '29 roadster banger project. More picts and details on my Instagram @markwellnitz if you use it. Getting ready to fire it up once the battery charges to spin the mag fast enough to light it off. IMG_20190608_153422_909.jpeg IMG_20190608_152825.jpeg

dmdeaton- Yup that's a needle! ! I have no idea how it got in there. It had been rattling around in there for a while, the edges were worn pretty smooth. When I got this carb/intake setup I just popped the tops off and did a quick once over and ran them. They ran fine but this carb would randomly flood really bad. I get a kick out of opening up old carbs, I've found some pretty odd stuff but never an extra needle....

  18. My computer Croaked and I was dark for few weeks! Report on VARA's race at Buttonwillow Raceway: I qualified in 1st Place with a 2.24:303 min. lap (my best ever at that track)! That put the lap average at over 82 m.p.h.! I was hitting over 105 m.p.h. down the back straight (calculated) with a 4.11 gearing. But in the main event the carburetors began to dismantle themselves, so I shut down. Screws on the top of the airhorns and floats started to come of; and a drain plug on the rear carb dropped completely off. The fix was to replace all screws with drilled head cap AN Screws; and safety wired them. I took the drain and Jet plugs off and completely cleaned them. I put them back loose (not all the way in); put a dab off Permatex non-Harding Thread Sealer on a feeler gauge. I laid the feeler gauge on the last threads and screwed the plugs towards home pulling the gauge out as it went. NO LEAKS! Before the car goes on the track each tine, a tape over a clean set of drain plugs will be in place!

So I am pretty sure I need to pull the flywheel out of this car. The hood fits poorly at the grill so I guess I can fix that too.
B motor and B transmission with stock B flywheel. My questions are: Lighten the stock B flywheel? Standard cut down A flywheel and does that fit the transmission? Custom flywheel? Did I see WindupToy with some? I want this fix involve the last flywheel and pressure plate I ever buy for this car. Thanks and I look forward to great advice as always.

  22. Why do you need to work on your clutch and flywheel? Is there something wrong? Vibration, slipping or chattering? Do you have a stock '32 transmission? Inquiring minds need to know! Example: I have a rather powerful high revving "Banger" in a light race car! The flywheel is balanced (along with everything else that rotates) "cutdown"; but slightly to fit a V8 9" clutch. The friction disc is one solid plate steel! It's not very "roadable" because without the springs in the disc it slams into gear!

@fourd just balance your setup. I cut my stock A flywheel down only to fit my bellhousing but after balancing all vibrations I’ve had before are gone. Drives great. You can use what you have or goto a v8 clutch. I went with the v8 clutch and it’s pretty nice to drive.

Loading up tomorrow and heading out Monday to Lincoln NE for the Speedster Reunion at Speedway. Since my brother and I are both 6' tall, thought the extended cab CCPU was a better choice than the Zipper. Will post photos when I return.

5EA5C597-FB38-462D-BBFD-8EBD23C585D6.jpeg Drove roadster every day to work this last week. Getting the 97's dialed in. Flooding thing figured out. Jets are about perfect, might drop down a couple sizes on PV's...Did about 80 miles up in the mountains and back Sat. after work. Got caught in the rain on the way home. I stayed over 60 so I didn't get too wet haha. Perfect day!
    Note to self: get Rain-X.

  30. It's coming up fast! Who needs a racer entry form? Pre registration helps get you in quicker. There are swap spaces available too for $40! There is also a $500 cash award ( the Mike Spangler memorial award) for the best spectator specialty car. So drive your old car, hot rod or custom even if you're not racing. Let me know if you need a pre-registration form!
