A lot of the pictures posted look late 50's to me, especially with full wheel covers and wide whitewalls. 60's style makes me think of mags or baby moons, drawer knob grilles, and candy colors, red being the first one I picture but root beer brown, green, bright blue, orange, all work with the right setup.

I always liked Schwinn stingray blue with lots of chrome.

  6. Candy red (over gold not over silver)

@49ratfink if I was going after a Schwinn Stingray color I would have to go with the Hawaiian Bronze that was the color of mine, with white pin strips.

The ever popular red its what comes first to my mind.
    But that fits any era.
In the magasines it was about any colors on the rods.
But light to medium blue, lavendel, green and turqouise
seems to be popular at the time.

I remember 'candy apple red' was very popular around town....that and several cars I remember that had a unique ''sandpaper'' grit texture to the paint...rough like fine-grit sandpaper to the touch, but was actually paint....I can remember 3 cars in my hometown (Rogue River, Oregon) circa 1965 that had that rough texture paint jobs....kind of odd now to think of it, especially with all the glossy sheens in paint now.

White was surprisingly popular then, often as a canvas for lots of scalloping and scribbling but sometimes by itself.

  10. When "Evening Orchid" came out on the new 65 Malibu, several guys in town painted their cars that color. I remember a 60 Pontiac and a super sano 34 ford tudor. Oh, and about 10, 65 chevelles.
To use it, a blindingly white naugahyde interior and whitewalls were mandatory. Chrome reverse wheels with spider caps were a no brainer.

Probably any color was used, but many were just a base for other add-ons: metalflake, fades, pearls, ribbons, cobwebbing, freak drops.

I think of these colors with a finer metallic and white interior. But I wasn't there
