Will my 1955 T-Bird with a 351c and a c4 trans qualify as a sports car?? has 1 seat! I restored a 1961 alpine sevaral years ago. just a 4 cylinder with dual side draft carbs and had impresssive handling

"This is the recently found and restored 1956 Austin Healey blown 354 Hemi 'Gasser' that IDA Automotive just put back together. This was a famous Easy Coast race car from back in the 60's . . . Bob lost track of it over the years. Well, they found (less original engine, drive train, etc) - put a ton of original parts that Bob still had back on it, replicated everything as it was back in the day (No, it is not an over-restored version - it is the real deal). Anyway, here it is being started in the pits at the Ohio Mile the first weekend in May, 2015. Enjoy"

Jim Costilow non-Dragonsnake Cobra was piloted by Bruce Larson of USA-1 fame at the 1964 Winternationals. This was a used ‘63 that was taken to Larson to prep for drag racing by Costilow.

 

That video was sooo good, got me leaning into the bends and working the pedals underneath the table, brilliant driving, i liked it when he was having fun with the red cheetah,
Hes an excelent driver.

This is the Cannon Mark IV. Built by the Cannon Bros. of Cannon Engineering, they originally installed a 270 Offenhauser. That didn't workout so they stuffed a big Lincoln V8 in it! The photo is photo of Jim Seely (a Cannon cousin and regular driver) at a Palm Springs race! It was very fast 'til the brakes began to fade!

 

The basis of the engine in this car was a 1933 Ford Model B "four banger"! With bunch of mods, including a Miller-Schofield (come CRAGAR) OHV cylinder head.In the early May running of VARA's race at Buttonwillow Raceway: I qualified in 1st Place with a 2.24:303 min. lap (my best ever at that track)! That put the lap average at over 82 m.p.h.! I was hitting over 105 m.p.h. down the back straight (calculated) with a 4.11 gearing. But in the main event the carburetors began to dismantle themselves, so I shut down. Screws on the top of the air horns and floats started to come off; and a drain plug on the rear carb dropped completely off. The fix was to replace all screws with drilled head cap AN Screws; and safety wired them. I took the drain and Jet plugs off and completely cleaned them. I put them back loose (not all the way in); put a dab off Permatex non-Harding Thread Sealer on a feeler gauge. I laid the feeler gauge on the last threads and screwed the plugs towards home pulling the gauge out as it went. NO LEAKS! Before the car goes on the track each tine, a tape over a clean set of drain plugs will be in place!

 

Here is a picture of the Neil Ellis car sponsored by Midwest that won class at Indy in 67-AM/SP.

 

This picture above (LB's pic) brings back the Logghe argument of the car that won AM/SP at the 67 Nationals sponsored by Midwest. The roll bar is different though but the car body is similar-hard to make out the wheels. There appears to be a 61 or 62 Vette over the rear deck but I am not aware of the year of this photo. The surroundings appears to be Motor City Dragway.

I have recently run across a poor picture of the car entered by Ronald Logghe in the 1960 NHRA U.S. Nationals. It seems to have a similar rollbar and I believe there were more than one of these cars. Still not sure of the bodywork to a certainty though. In 1960 the Nats took place at Detroit Dragway which would have been a somewhat local track for the Logghe Brothers whose business I believe was in Fraser a suburb of Detroit. Motor City though would probably have been a closer track for the east side guys, which the Logghe brothers were.

Trying to make out the writing on the BM/SP above-looks like a 66 Chevelle in the background so it was not too long for this car to make runs in BM/SP (year or thereabouts).

It may be a Ferrari but it is definitely a hot rod sports car and definitely the most expensive one on the planet. Faced with the prospect of increasing competition from various manufacturers Ferrari took their very successful 250 SWB (short wheel base) coupe platform and came up with the 250 GTO. The GTO designation came from the fact that Ferrari managed to convince the sanctioning body (the FIA) that this car was simply a modified version of the 250 SWB and thus managed to get it homolgated (Omologata in Italian) for use in the Grand Touring category of the sports car championship.
