Ya no....what has always attracted my interest is that building or customizing cars is a universal language and a clean canvas of expression. There are never ending ideas, combinations, one off creativities, that are expressed and executed with every level of skill.
One of the guiding forces in this my last build is to minimize fabrication and melt the now available catalogue parts together.
50+ years ago Saturdays we're spent at swap meets or in the "junk" yards gathering parts for "the build".
Open the catalogues now and with some planning you are on your way to painting that canvas with "your" ideas/dreams.
    It's a passion, it's fun, it's a disease....keep the interest and spirit alive...

Progress.... interesting day. (1/2 day- literally hotter than hell at 102). My build table has saddles at each corner that allows to weigh each corner of the build/car.
So we did. And.....front axle wheel weights were 530lbs RF and 537 lbs LF....
Not bad. Have about 150lbs to add.
    Expect total out to be 2400-2600lbs. IMG_20190529_121325015.jpeg IMG_20190529_121456616.jpeg IMG_20190529_121416472.jpeg IMG_20190529_114153313.jpeg IMG_20190529_114214641.jpeg

Looks like it will be amazing and fun when you are finished and it kind of seems like you have a handle on what you are doing and won't really need any input from us lol.

Ah, not so. HAMB'ers are the best and have most certainly helped in many ways. A great place to throw the questions and get lots of answers. IMG_1359.JPG You just have to draw a line, where to stop. I know it's hard to do, have enjoyed following along. Those are the same type of scales we use setting up our 410 sprint car. When we first started we were using grain scales we had 4 of them and that's how we did it. We were grouveing Firestone drag slicks and when the quit building them and became a Hoosier dealer and grouved them.
It's going be hard not to mash the button on your build, anxious to see it completed.

Love your comments. Noticed you are in the lofty rarified air of us oldsters.
I started with six cylinder jalopies on dirt in Michigan. The stuff we did to make them hook and turn. And lots of other questionable stuff. Scary.
Started with four grain scales too.
But it was fun every Friday and Saturday night at the dust bowl bull rings.
    Really miss those days.

IMG_94E3792C7812-1.jpeg We started with 6 cylinder flathead Fords in 32 Fords both 5 widows and 3 windows. The cubic inch limit was 300 for flat motors and 250 for OHV. We had one guy named Frank Riley who run a Intrenational 6 very competive, then came the Red Rams and Chevy 265 claiming to be destroked to 250 inch. The Dodges seem to be the most popular.
We ran these on Friday night at Devils Bowl, it was a old rock quarry. Saw lots of right front spindle broken and wheel flying off into the grandstands, that's why everyone stood up during the races. The cars started into becoming Sprint cars. The old 36 and later were raced at Fair Park and were called jalopy races. I did not drive but wrenched on them since I was a bout 13 years old. When my neighbor went into the military I started to going to drag races with my friend Smiley who was driveing for Vance Hunt top fuel. Then he went dirt track raceing. Can you visualize a sprint car running a blown small block on methanol with knobby , talk about roster tails . I still work with my buddy Smiley who I grew up with. Smiley runs Smiley Sitton'sOutlaw Driveing School. Check out his web site.
Sorry for being long winded. Frank

Well, here we are again. "Trundling along working on the 32 five window. It's funny how you can start the day with a specific mission and three days later lots of stuff needed gets done but the first mission remains yet to be done....today driver side headers WILL get done!!!
But, meantime hung pedals. Cut parcel tray and moved firewall/gas tank back 3", refitted seats. (Wow, what a really comfortable difference on leg, pedal and steering room). Loose fitted shifter. Made trans tunnel frame work.
Headers today then lift body off to finish weld frame stuff and prep for paint. Moving along....

2005 Nissan Maxima. Unusual in that they are both powered.
FYI...I cut three inches out of parcel tray and moved seats back. WOW what a difference in leg / body room.
Seat up, tilt column down, lots of relaxed room.
    Can't wait to take a trip. IMG_20190606_150254523.jpeg IMG_20190606_150235230.jpeg IMG_20190606_145622425.jpeg IMG_20190606_144422313.jpeg

Hey 1 Shot...thanks for asking...yep.... chassis at paint...pick up tomorrow, rough in on wiring..outa 100+ cars, first kit..always done my own, (shot myself in the footsies-moved fuse block home base to trunk...duh..had to lengthen all leeds). Did that because wanted to preserve the real estate under the dash. Not much there ya no. Fitting adaptation of 200 R4 to Ardun. Plan engine trans back in frame, body on, suspension loose on this coming week. I know what you went thru with wiring. I just did my roadster and changed location of the fuse box two times and went to a simpler one because I did not need all the xtra stuff. Wound up with 6 fuse blocks turned on by a 40 amp relays. Looking good also used a inertia turn signal unit so I don't have all the wires in the column. I also need too have one of those garage sales. Frank

This is what I used it's all self contained, it has turn signals self canceling after then and has 4 way flashers also. Has audible sound control, and includes a small switch

I have plenty to do, but I've been glued to your thread for the past hour, koolbeans. Couldn't pull myself away LOL.

I like your build, of course. Very much so. But I'm really enjoying your abilities and watching you work. And your vision for the project. You say yeah no, but it's a pleasure to see a guy who has the experience and has gotten to a point that he knows pretty much what he wants to do and how to do it. And doing some figuring out along the way.

Enjoying your spirit, too. You've got a good sense of humor, and even though you've been around, you obviously appreciate others, you enjoy the hobby and you don't sound jaded at all. You're an inspiration.

I've learned a couple things from you. I took note of how you're building your transmission tunnel from separate pieces.

Please answer a couple questions so I can learn more.

    The age-old question...
What do you like to use for welders?

And your rear suspension. I basically understand hidden springs and shocks and bellcranks, but for some reason I'm having difficulty understanding the geometry of your setup. How it's going to work against the shock. And is your shock the upper link as well?

    All the best to you.
I can't wait till you're driving it too!

    Thanks a lot, koolbeans.

Thanks. First....I think hot rods and their builds have been and are one of the greatest artistic forms and language of the world. From every corner of the world cars are tinkered with or built from scratch. Fun stuff to participate in
The trans tunnel is a preliminary form made from 18g sheet. Easy to pattern and hand form. Will cover with mould release cardboard and covered with light glass cloth, then insulated then carpeted.
60 years ago started with a Lincoln stick. Then through several brands have been Miller product user for the last 50. (Dynasty 200 ac/dc tig/Miller 185 mig/Miller plasma). Love them all.
But...today I went to a friend's garage where he is building a Devin bodied Morgan...really kool. I did some mig on 1/4" spring shackle hangers for him...using his Lincoln 110vac unit. Was seriously impressed. 1/4" is probably the limit but it worked perfectly.
Now, your suspension obervation. It's a rocker system. The axle is located by triangulated 4 bar. This allows up and down, rotation, and no need for a panhard bar.
In front of the axle, on each side mounted on the frame longetudenly is a rocker...the lower rear ear of the rocker is attached via a link to the rearmost of the lower trailing arm.
Then the coilover is attached to the upper ear of the rocker with its other end attached to a bracket on the chassis.
So, when the chassis is compressed towards the ground, (acceleration squat), the link pushes up on the rocker, it rotates and translates the motion into compressing the coilover/spring.
This isn't new although to hot rods it's a departure. Starting in the mid to late seventies virtually all open wheel racers used some form of either push rod linkages (like mine) or pull rods.
My purpose...to hide the coilovers cleaning up the rear visual...and so the traditionalist don't get all wadded up....oh well...love this stuff...lots of thinking and lots of doin...

Thanks very much for the thoughtful reply, koolbeans.

You echo my thoughts exactly about hot rods being one of the greatest art forms. There's so much to it... the nuts-and-bolts knowledge, the knowledge of the history, and all the skills involved. I sometimes call it hard art LOL. A lot of hard work, but with an artist's eye.

Thanks for your thorough reply about the welders. Including that last bit about your friends 110 volt mig.

And thanks for clarifying your rear suspension. Got it. Nothing new as you say, typical of similar setups that I've seen. Just that it's unfinished, I didn't see the inboard links and thought maybe it was something I hadn't seen before.

Have fun. Catch up with you later.
