I dont have any pictures, but back in my high school days, mid 60's, a friend had a family hand me down. A 60 Rambler 4 door sedan. He got tired of the old 6 and picked up a wrecked 58 Olds. Stuffed the big V8 in it with a Lasalle 3 speed, a Ford 9 inch, cone hubcaps & white walls. Surprised a lot of folks.

a60.jpg Not much of a sleeper. But while some were discussing handicaps this is my fathers 62 Pontiac. He lost his left leg in Vietnam. When we built this car it started out as a 4sp manual. Of course we made it auto. My father has a sense of humor so the pedal stayed with a spring on it to hold it in the up position. Shifter was a BM universal looks like a stick shifter with a boot. He just liked to leave it in drive to race. He foot braked it and used a cane to mash down the throttle. Funny part is when he got back to the pits and got out of the car and people would look at him then the three pedals. He would just shrug his shoulders at them. A local guy near here built a falcon with a stick figuring if my old man could do it so could he. BTW low to mid 11s depending on track or weather.

  5. My handle namesake is kinda sleepy- if it weren't so loud it'd be good to go. 64 Malibu 4dr wagon, original azure aqua paint. Under the hood isn't impressive either, on purpose. Balanced 327 with high compression pistons, aftermarket heads, performer rpm intake, Holley carb and big tube headers. The intake markings I ground off and stippled, painted with "cast iron" paint, painted valve covers and a factory style single horn air cleaner to cover up the carb. Super T10 4 speed.
Trimmed out the middle part but left the framework of the roof rack, left the trailer hitch and the Smokey Bear bumper sticker. It is a 90k, 1 previous owner car.
Seems like I always have to work on "street car" day at the local strip but hoping to get a time slip this summer.

Reminds me of "if you don't crash occasionally, you're not going fast enough"

I gotta tell ya, I always smile when I read that someones street car has never been beat and the specs they give about their car tells me it probably runs 12s.....at best (there are exceptions).
Both of my cars have over 500 hp (dyno sheets on each) one has 4.11 gears and the other is running 4.30s so I get off the line pretty good and I still lose once in a while.
You guys must have some slow ass cars in your neighborhoods. Either that or youre lining up against mini vans and Subaru Outbacks :p

Not very fast by today’s standards but a plain Jane bench seat 4 speed car driven every day and good for an honest 12.7-13 sec pass. Faster combo always “in the works”

My daily driver at the time had a 58’ 283 “220hp” with ported HO 305 heads, ram horns through stock dual exhaust, 3 spd OD with 4.56 posi. Raced a guy in a 327 3x2 auto in a 36 dodge coupe one night on victory blvd after leaving bobs big boy. Best 2 out of 3........ killed him every time. He could not under stand how a stock 57’ Chevy could do that. IMG_4558.JPG
To add insult to injury a 348 59’ WCFB with a stock 59’ air cleaner!

Common feature in that era. Cadillac started it; I believe the '41s had it first. Went thru '58 there (it's hidden in '59-60 but where you would expect it to be; no longer behind the lighting). I know '58 Pontiac has the same feature, so did '58 Olds, '57 Chevy, '56 Imperial, Mark II...

    Hello,
In reading the quote, it was stated that IT WAS 1956, NO OTHER YEAR. Our family doctor had a 1949 Cadillac sedan that had the same style flip taillight for the gas filler. So, we knew about others, but, it was noted that the year was the 1956 models, the fast 56 Chevy of my friend from Bixby Knolls.

"I have always liked 56 Chevys as they sported the coolest accessory. They had the only secret gas compartment in the taillight on these stock cars from General Motors. That was very trick."

Plus, this 1956 Bel Air had a 301 C.I. or possibly a 352 C.I. installed. No one knew, as it was a well kept secret. It was a real sleeper in a two toned cruiser.

It's a pretend one [Clone car], a real one is way out of my league! 427FE with T10 and Crites kit including rear suspension; a retirement present to myself while I finish my 46 Olds.
I was lucky enough to score a mint original period correct RC Industries NHRA FE bellhousing the other day to replace the stock Ford unit currently in the car. These bellhousings were fitted to Thunderbolts by DST when they built the original cars.

I love it. More likely to drive a clone/copy than an original even though they can be pricey too.

    Enjoy the car.

This steel 34 3W coupe is not mine however it's an interstate car that looks restored, however it runs a 900hp BBC and goes hard. I posted a photo on another HAMB thread of its new license plate, 'Runs 9s'

Ran 11.43 @ 117 at last Fridays street legal drags with the little 750 quick fuel carb. Hoping for deeper 11's with a Holley 950 hp this weekend.
