Slower than the smell leaving cat shit, and you'll be the first one on the scene of an accident.... Nonetheless an easy vehicle to love. I've owned 4 econolines. 62 Econoline.jpg

Can anyone tell me whether I should keep the 13" wheels on it or can I get some 14" wheels? I worry about clearance...but I'm going to get the motor on Sunday and he has some wheels as well if I want them....

Early on Didn't FORD install some big weight at the rear to improve the unloaded weight distribution ?

I ran 14's on mine with no trouble. They may have rubbed on the front a little when cranked all the way left or right. I had Magnum 500's on a '66.

I was wondering why you were bummed that it was a '61 instead of a '66. That probably explains it!

Pros and cons to both...smaller doghouse, smaller motor, no crossmember, no weight over fuel tank...but....its older, which means it's cooler to me! (I'm not "bummed" anymore ) and I can go to "pre '63" shows!!!!!

An 8.8 will fix that nicely.

I can give you some simple and expensive tips to get about 40-60hp more out of that 200.

I have an angry little 200, running EFI, that is now just over 200hp.

Somewhere between stock, and that, will make a comfortable daily driver, and reasonable hauler.

unfortunately not ...they changed the bellhousing from 5 to 6 bolts in'65

ha ha did you mean in-expensive? lol
*from my experience with putting a 250 in a Falcon they are a bit longer mods to the rad might be required
*my 2 cents would be to forget tracking down rare and expensive parts to get that dog of a 6 running...find a later model parts van with a 289 and make it real fun!

Plan is to attempt to use the carb and distributor to get the 144 going first...then I can make sure the 200 is in proper shape...note the freeze plug replacements... 20190609_174307.jpeg

Dual pattern block, automatic flexplate. Originally equipped with an 8-1/2" bellhousing.

    It's a bolt in.

The carburetor and distributor from the 200 will not fit the 144!

If you have a local yard, with anything after about 1974, with a 200, or a 250 in it, grab the distributor and spark box. It will need the plug wires for it, as they have different terminals.

Your year of 200 has a miserable distributor that hampers performance (as does your 144, and a 170). My elders say that these sucked hard, even when brand-new.

If you have the coin, and can find a 1980 or later 200 or 250 donor, grab the distributor, spark box, head, carb, and exhaust manifold. Have the head decked 0.090", and freshened up. Block off the EGR. Use the adjustable rockers from your 144.

The 1980-end of run head has the biggest valves, log and runners. It uncorks the 200. The part number starts with E0. The 200 and 250 E0 heads are the same one.

All of this will only be a few hundred bucks. It will make a big difference (and allow you to properly run unleaded).

For perspective, my donor head was $40.
