Growing up my dad always talked about his 1960 Buick. He said it had a "sunroof" that was most of the roof and was quite the hot car in its day. He didn't own it very long before his younger brother had a seizure while driving it at a high rate of speed and flipped it. Surprisingly he lived and went on to have many more misadventures with cars, but that's a bunch of other stories.... Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what this Buick was. I can't seem to find anything that fits the description. It wasn't a mercury meteor with the glass roof but that somewhat fits the description except it sounds like the roof glass actually went rearward quit a ways. Perhaps it isn't a 1960 or even a Buick. Dad is 86 now so its possible that he may be mixing up his cars/years but I would really like to figure this out and see if I could find one to work on with him while we can. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I had a '63 Lincoln with a similar top, made by Golde, same place that made the 1960 Thunderbird sunroof cars.
http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/a/asc/asc.htm Could have been installed by Golde as a custom job, seems like they did that, this link might be of interest.
Thanks everybody. Still not seeing anything that quite looks or sounds right. Jnkyarddog, maybe.....a little earlier than he remembers but I'll ask him.
Well that rules out a Studebaker wagon. I believe the Studebaker wagon had a steel sliding top? Yes ?
Buick did have their version of GM bubble top two door hardtop roof style. But even with the high compression 401 the two speed Dyna flow would keep it from the hot car ranks as far as performance is concerned.
Flat Roy, oddly enough that's how he describes it though I'm sure that's not it. Starting to sound like maybe there's some confusion going on. Too bad he doesn't have any pictures. Thanks everybody for your guesses.
