I have the dash almost all back together now. I took some time to polish all the switches and knobs also. Pretty happy with the progress. Just waiting for the radio face to come back from chrome. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks man. Your build is amazing and making me want to put a 302 in and get some more HP out of it. The shifter on the floor looks good too. Dude I’m torn now hahaha Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Ya man the floor shifter was a must for me. I had to have the engine and trans rebuilt anyways so I figured that was the time to do it. Soo much more fun to drive a stick in a car like this. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I got the dash installed a few weeks ago. Just been buttoning up the electrical since then and taking it to a few local shows. Feels good to cruise it again. I also relocated the started switch to under the dash and installed a push button starter in its place since the ignition switch never actually fit there properly. The previous owner smashed up the stainless to get it to thread on. I had my polisher straighten it out when he polished it. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I’ve been driving the car a lot more now that the dash and more stainless is installed. That has motivated me to get more of the interior put back together. Last night I made a template for the package tray. This is how my dad taught me years ago. Next I’ll trace the pattern on some 1/8” plywood and get a coat of varnish on it until I can have it upholstered. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
You have that car looking great. I like it that you didn't go with all the frufru side pipes and spots on it too.
How do those vertical bars come together(or apart)? Also, how was it replacing that back window? I need to do my 52 Merc. Rob P.S. your car looks great! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Thanks. The cover on the inside will come off if you pry it gently. There are screws under that to remove the bar. I’m not sure if it was difficult. I had my glass guy do it. Make sure you have your stainless trim on hand because you need that to line the glass up to. My car didn’t have the stainless on it when the glass was first installed and he had it adjusted too high. I had to take it back to him and he popped it out and moved it down to meet the stainless. Thanks I'll be replacing it in the near future so I'll save this post. Can't wait to see what you post next! Rob Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Thanks to you and your Pops for the tip voodoo! I stopped at a local upholstery supplier today and snagged some marine vinyl and headliner adhesive for $20 total. I used your template method and some old 70’s wall paneling to make this one today. Your method made it easy! Your build is kickin’ ass, Sir....Thank you for posting.
Right on. Glad it worked well for you. Looks good in there! Thank you for the kind works. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Not much real progress lately. Still driving it as much as I can. The kids love it so we’ve been taking them somewhere in it every weekend. Playing around with different hubcaps and no skirts in the back. Some angles I think it looks really good. Other angles you can see how narrow the rear end is and I think it makes it look funny. But here are a couple of good angles. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Jerry Quesnel's '52 is a personal favorite. I particularly dig that this followed his '49 Merc, one of the very first ever chopped. Just me, but I can't imagine not running the skirts.
Man, that car was up on the wall of my garage the whole time I was building my car haha. Love that one. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I have a question. What happens when you get a flat in the rear tires. How do you change the tire. Is it bagged? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
