That was before our language was bastardized. Back when "gay" didn't define sexual preference but rather happy and joyous.

Too bad someone doesn't hate, say, Studebakers with a (sick) passion. It would be much more entertaining

Stick City in Whittier, CA. When I was in high school, (late '60's),we used to drive over there from Anaheim to check out the cool hot rods and muscle cars. Couldn't afford any of them. The joke was it was called "Stick City" because they stuck it to you with the prices.

The Arroyo Seco Parkway, also known as the Pasadena Freeway, is the first freeway in the United States. It connects Los Angeles with Pasadena alongside the Arroyo Seco Seasonal River. It was opened in 1940. It conformed to modern standards when it was built, but is now regarded as a narrow, OUTDATED ROADWAY. it now carries the designation State Route 110. The Arroyo Seco Parkway remains the most direct route between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena despite its flaws.

    Hello,

When we were growing up and visiting friends in Pasadena, my dad used to take us on this old freeway. It is narrow, winds around blind corners, and the off ramps, despite the signs, are so sharp/short that it surprises a driver going 60 mph. The time it takes to slow down is cut short due to the shortness of the off ramp. Most normal freeway off ramps allow a gradual slowing before coming to a dead stop or merging.

For new drivers, even the short on ramps don’t give much merging traffic views or time, to make a wise decision. But, back in 1940, there weren’t as many cars using the freeway. That traffic jam probably was caused by a traffic accident on those short off ramps. The brake lights pop up rather fast. In the 40s and 50s, those lights were rather small on passenger vehicles.

By the time we were driving, the Long Beach Freeway with the long cloverleaf on/off ramps were built. The merging was a new drivers delight, with time enough to see where the opening between the cars that were in your lanes. Coming off of the freeways, the full cloverleaf patterns allowed plenty of time to slow down before merging with the street traffic.

Even though we were fairly used to the LB Freeway on/off ramps, that may have been a factor in us almost getting sideswiped getting off of the Pasadena Freeway back in 1963-65. Next to the freeways were great hills for motorcycling, and there were no signs for private property. There were trails and open spaces to set up courses and just free ride. But, getting to those open grass hills, one has to get off of those short exit roads and immediately stop for the cross traffic.

As history goes, the name Pasadena Freeway has been changed to Arroyo Seco Parkway by local popular demand.
